    Pros

It is unlike any other company I have worked for, theres no sense of hierarchy, the team are all treated the same. IG put a lot of effort into ensuring the company mingles, they do this by setting up monthly events in the office.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours are long and you can be expected to work late, but personally have felt that its always made up to you in some way.

    Advice to Management

Regular catch ups would be appreciated

  2. Helpful (2)

Could do so much better with the staff and technology - high staff turnover in most IT departments.

    Pros

    Location in central London
Friendly staff at same or lower levels
Free fruit daily and free monthly Friday night drinks for all.
Decent monthly pay package, share matching scheme and contributory pension.

    Cons

Blame culture is big, given the claim to not be one.
High churn of staff meant you never knew who'd be working with you on a project from day to day.
Chasm between the workers and senior staff - who redefine the word 'unapproachable'.
VERY cliquey environment to work within - if you weren't one of the in crowd, boy did you know it.
Annual bonus inconsistent in allocation to those seemingly doing a similar job.
They don't understand at all career progression or aspirations of staff who want to move up.
Projects seem to materialise from no where with no business case, etc.

    Advice to Management

Get a proper strategic plan and stick to it. You are now a big company - act like one, rather than one that acts on whimsical fancies.

    Pros

Relatively good salaries and benefits for what is required of you.

    Cons

Absolutely horrific culture: finger pointing and back-stabbing is not only condoned but also encouraged. There is an absolute obsession with blame allocation. Hard work is pointless if you want to stand out. Dirty politics will take you much farther. The meaning of constructive feedback is unknown to IG: there's either no feedback or totally destructive comments.

IG is a company that grew very fast and it will fall just as fast, as they've been totally unable to grow their culture and their people alongside their revenues. Hoards of long-standing employees are running away to competitors, something that would have been inconceivable 5 years ago. Senior management have no idea of how to run a big company. They behave like village despots trying to run a big city and consequently, they have gone from failure to failure.

An absolute disgrace of a company.

    Pros

Good teamwork, laid back atmosphere, monthly drinks, Christmas party.

Clearly a great business model that is not going to fail anytime soon

    Cons

    blame culture is rife,

pay is poor, bonuses are not necessarily linked to performance, too many good employees leave

    Advice to Management

Hold on to the best people!

    Pros

Great facilities for employees. Clean showers, changing rooms and kitchens. Great perks such as gym allowance, private health care and bonuses.

    Cons

They believe they are an agile company yet not really grasped what agile is. They use project managers and a hydrid product owner/scrum master and business analyst as a hybrid stakeholder or prodcut owner. The Pm office does not have programme managers or a real grasp on project and programme governance however that's partly due to senior management that have been at IG a long time and do.not know any other way of working.

    Advice to Management

Be open to changes and adaptation. There are more efficient ways of working in the world than IG world.

    Pros

Hiring individuals based on a good fit meant many positive work relationships and individuals with similar focus. Good motivation levels that inspired. While more structure to the hierarchy has developed over the years, management are still approachable and willing to listen. Extra hours are expected but generally recognised.

    Cons

Communication wasn't always as good as it could have been, changes explained as they happened. Promotion opportunities limited, many young and talented individuals have moved on as a result, top management seemingly unwilling to address this.

    Pros

IG looks after staff fairly well and the benefits and facilities around the office are good. If you deliver, you can be rewarded well. The company works hard to maintain the quality of it's products and brand values which is reflected in the corporate culture. IG can be slow to adapt to new technologies and ideas

    Cons

There is a hierarchy and a gulf between staff and senior management. There is another gulf between technology and the business functions and it can seem at times that it's two separate companies you're hearing about. Because of high staff retention over the years in certain areas, it can be clicky. It's a professional, well oiled machine and that doesn't suit everyone's working style, particularly if you hate the idea of being a cog in a wheel.

    Pros

IG attracts and relies on a mainly talented workforce. Free drinks once a month, free fruit everyday and the opportunity to travel to some of their 16 international offices, in some departments. A friendly workplace, modern offices and great roof-gardens with brilliant view of the Thames, both East and West. IG invest heavily in technology and maintain a cutting-edge and reliable infrastructure within the business. Excellent place to gain exposure to a 'big' company that still enjoys a smaller, less-corporate feel.

    Cons

Rampant dream-selling and lack of management coherency power high staff turnover. Those that stay are typically less ambitious and see comfort preferable to career progression. Demotivating and repetitive work with very limited training on offer. Pay is on the lower side of market rates.

    Advice to Management

Micromanagement is rife, save for the odd diamond in the rough. Kill that culture and let your staff spread their wings. Engage more - you seem aloof.

    Pros

The best thing is people. There you meet friends, not just colleagues. Friends from different nationalities and with different cultural background. I like this, but you can find this in every global company I think.

    Cons

The worst culture ever, blaming, pointing at people and shooting as soon as they become inconvenient to the wind of power of senior managers. The majority of the employees leaves in one year. There are teams and departments completely re-built for the high turn over, as all the employees left in three months!

    Advice to Management

    Question yourself.
