    Pros

for basic experience, it will work

    Cons

often no training, just thrown in and sink or swim. No feedback until you have/are in trouble. management would rather not know you exist, ie; they do not want problems

    Pros

Great people, lively atmosphere, room for individuals.

    Cons

Recent Adecco acquisition ruined Idea. Adecco is focused on general staff augmentation. Idea was based on professional staff augmentation and turnkey projects.

    Advice to Management

Allow Idea t odo what it does best: turnkey software projects using the latest and greatest technologies.

    Pros

    Great work life balance
    Good benefits
    decent salaries
    Open to new ideas

    Cons

Owned by a huge staffing Corp. who knows nothing about agencies and cares nothing for the "art" of advertising and has little respect for creative.
One Trick Pony--80% of business from one client
    HUGE turn-over. 31 people in 3 years. Most lay-offs.
All upper management has no experience outside of IDEA. They have created a Frankenstein agency by making up new standards, reinventing wheels, and not understanding advertising, marketing, or branding.
Creatives are all young know it all's who have minimal experience in other agencies. It's been called the "Lord of the Flies" department.

    Advice to Management

Bring in people with agency experience. Adopt standard agency operating processes. Get a consultant. Understand your competitors and what you're up against

    Pros

the folks on the factory floor are great... the clients are great...

    Cons

too much drama... constant gossip and senior management is the primary cause of most issues... no one is truly "the boss" because the company is owned by someone else... it's basically a free-for-all on most things... clients are the last thing management worries about

    Advice to Management

admit your shortcomings... learn to adapt... stop the drama

    Pros

Idea is very family friendly, flexible and supporting. They have that small firm feel which is nice when you don't want to just be a number in a larger company.

    Cons

That small firm feel is a double edge sword. They haven't won a lot of business and can't carry people after the end of a project unless there is another project firmly in sight. This would not be so bad if they did a better job at bringing in new work, but without better business development, there just isn't much to work on. That's fine if you accept a job there for a specific project and you're happy, but if you want a career, it means you could find yourself in trouble unless they get more work for you after that initial project.

    Advice to Management

Management already knows what they need to do. They are working to fix business dveelopment, but who knows how long that will take.

Interactive has the potential to be the best but not with current leadership.

    Pros

Flexible hours, good benefit package, paid vacations and sick time.

    Cons

The leadership in interactive is inexperienced, uneducated and completely in over their heads. Anyone with talent and experience starts looking for another job within 6 months of hire. The company frowns upon new ideas, efforts to improve or any "change" whatsoever (even though they will repeatedly tell you in the interview that they are looking for new, fresh ideas from people with experience to help them improve.) No support for employees with hardware or software. Management made many promises during the interview and offer discussions that they never kept. A tremendous amount of politics, backstabbing, gossip, immaturity and attacking coworkers in order to mask their own inability and dysfunction.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend that the new parent company make every employee reapply for their jobs. 90% of the leadership has been there 9+ years simply because no other company would ever hire them at the same level based on their resume.

    Pros

    - Highly skilled and passionate co-workers
    - Opportunity to work for a variety of interesting clients
    - Lots of knowledge sharing between co-workers

    Cons

    - Highly political environment
    - Management made lots of promises they didn't keep
    - Absolutely no work-life balance (and there never will be)
    - Surprisingly poor support of employees with proper hardware and software to do their job
    - Archaic time reporting system
    - Employees are expendable

    Advice to Management

    - Continue to inspire your staff
    - Stop making promises you can't keep to your employees
    - Put your employees first -- treat them with dignity, not like slaves
    - Deliver on the promise of work-life balance -- endless work hours does not have to be a badge of honor; promote working effectively, not endlessly
    - Keep the backbiting to a minimum; treat people fairly

    Pros

Good benefits. You have some autonomy if you can handle the cons of working here. Great clients.

    Cons

Management takes advantage of lower pay employees who are willing to consistently put in overtime. There is a "you're with us or against us" attitude from managers and employees are afraid to speak up. Billability and profits are more important than creative vision and quality work.

    Advice to Management

Hire new managers with outside agency experience.

    Pros

Great place to grow both personally and professionally. Both the benefits and the culture support this.

    Cons

Public company (parent org) so we have to play by those rules which feels like it can be limiting although overall it allows us stability.

    Advice to Management

Provide more structured mentorship and succession planning, or at least be more transparent about it.
