I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Sabbatical every 7 years rocks

    Cons

Too much middle management, too rigid telecommuting policy, slow to react, blinders

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a bad funk permeating the culture. Innovation is not cultivated or appreciated at too many levels. Too many short-sighted middle managers driving creativity and the next "new thing" right out of the employee/company. For all the talk of being exciting, vibrant, cutting edge, that may have been the case over a decade ago but the atmosphere is anything but that today. While we are now comfortably in the lead in technology, most of the people that sacrificed to make that happen have already been shown the door by now. Stop cutting your lifeblood. Stop cow-towing to Wall Street. Take care of your employees and treat them appropriately. They achieve every wild prediction that a new CEO spouts, yet when it is time for salary bumps, you hide behind statistics and hyperbole. You want above and beyond? Be that.

I worked at Intel Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Big full-fledged company and have many different jobs in multiple disciplines and you can get a good exposure to the latest technology and tools.

    Cons

Employees are not much valued, and sometimes kicked out based on peer reviews. They frequently lay off because of too many employees, and almost everyone seems to fear that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My manager didn't take any interest and was mostly unaware of what I was doing. And the problem is that everyone relies entirely upon the manager's word-of-mouth.

I worked at Intel Corporation as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Fairly professional environment. The corporation seemed like they actually cared about their employees.

    Cons

As a contractor, some of the management obviously weren't as nice to us.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One manager told me, "you don't get to ask for that, you are a contractor." Ok, thanks for putting me in my place. Since we were moving cubicles, I just thought I would ask for the one I wanted.

    Pros

Great work-life balance. Job rotation to try out different teams.

    Cons

No career growth or promotions even with great performance and awards. Moving within the company can also be hard, especially because of mediocre upper management.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Intel Corporation is AMAZING.
Good Pay but great bonuses and stock.
    Great benefits.
    Sabbatical every 8 years.
Flexible hours and work from home options.
Good ability to "move around" in the company

    Cons

It really depends on the business unit you work for... some are better than others.
I found management on the Graphics Engineering side to be fairly bad. It's hit or miss. I personally had 2 levels of good management, but had to deal with some other groups that were poorly mismanaged and it began to affect my every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the fat. There are too many people going around trying to get others to do their job for them rather than put in the sweat and LEARN. Get rid of these people and higher high performers. And then try to keep them.
