Layoffs abound and people are very paranoid.

Systems Engineer (Current Employee) Folsom, CA (US)

    ProsGreat pay especially for Folsom.

ConsVery negative work environment especially with layoffs happening. No training, it's sink or swim. It's doom and gloom everywhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementSimplify the roadmap so we can do one product GREAT instead of doing lots of mediocre products.

Great place to work, if you join, target the larger sites

Software Engineer/Manager (Current Employee) Folsom, CA (US)

    Prosculture values open, direct communications
    employees generally help each other
    good overall compensation package
lots of very smart, driven people
once in the company, you can move around and try a lot of different things
work/life balance is acheivable, outside of crunch times

ConsUncertain business outlook. Majority of revenue comes from PCs (a declining market). Working on building up the other businesses but they are unlikely to be as profitable.
Many very complex products are split across sites and timezones. This isn't abnormal in itself, but in Intel's case the site splits are sometime arbitrary and/or politically driven. It slows the company down. Also, many groups have grown too large and have slowed down as a result.

Advice to Senior Managementcontinue to consolidate sites and trim down existing projects (they are finally doing this)

Great company if you find the right fit for you!

Technical Recruiter (Current Employee) Folsom, CA (US)

ProsGreat place to work. Free soda and fruit. Great pay and benefits. Sabbaticals. Intel really takes care of you. It is a great stable company.

ConsMy department went through many changes in 2 years. Too much pressure on their employees and not enough consulting with the people who actually did the work.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees more often. Some managers are definitely better than others.

Intel is a great place to work with many opportunities

Manager (Current Employee) Folsom, CA (US)

ProsIntel is a great place to work - you work with smart people and interesting projects. Business objectives are communicated clearly. There is a shuttle to/from some of the sites. In Folsom, there is a nice new gym.

ConsAs with any larger company, sometimes it takes longer for decisions to be made/approved

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize managers who are true leaders and not rulers - there are many ways to results. It's important to treat people with respect and inspire them. Encourage thinking outside the box and challenging status quo.
