    Great Place to Work

I have been working at Intel Corporation as a contractor

    Pros

It is obvious the employees are valued. The work space is modern and you get the equipment you need to do your job. You have a flexible work schedule to accommodate your personal life. People's vacation requests are supported as much as possible.

    Cons

It is a big corporation, so some things take a long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not put people in the mobile spaces - too crowded, no privacy, no storage space. As an employee, you feel less valued.

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits, challenging work, great co-workers. Work/life balance is encouraged, but so is working long and hard hours as needed.

    Cons

Going through some cultural changes, along with business changes. Some of the commitment to employees from the past is weakening.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk the talk when it comes to valuing employees and treating them with respect. Keep one on the past and how the company demonstrated their commitment to their employees during the boom and lean times in Intel's storied past. Don't be too hasty to change for sake of saving a buck, as you may end up with knowledge base attrition that will cost you more in the long run.

I have been working at Intel Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Co-workers often go out of their way to help you with learning something new if they've had experience with it. My group personally allows a large amount of freedom regarding working from home, taking vacation/half days, and daily working hours. There is ALWAYS an Intel employee that is an expert in the thing you want to know. The trick is finding that person and nabbing them for some 1 on 1 time.

    Cons

Office culture can be a bit bland if you only take what you're given. But if you find a group of friends (fairly easy for Interns and college grads) it can breakup the day well and keep things interesting. It's rather intimidating starting in such a large corporation, where it's almost impossible to know everything that's affecting your project.

    Pros

This is specific to Mashery (An Intel company)
    Work life balance
great location in the midst of market street.
open minded managers (with no micro management)

    Cons

    Not much performance bonus.
Not much interesting green field dev projects.
    Too much CS cupport

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More radical risk taking leadership which consults engineers for improving the stack drastically.
    Hire more raw young talent.

Make the place more fun to work with more off-sites /parties.

I worked at Intel Corporation full-time

    Pros

Great Benefits, Salary and Working Environment. In manufacturing the compressed workweek schedule is great for having extended weekends. Overall a good company to work for.

    Cons

The culture can be too engineering centric - demanding expectations and lack of work life balance can be draining in the long run. Limited room for advancement and constant threat of looming layoffs make for a stressful environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs to be more flexible and open to innovation. While there is a drive from the top to focus on user experience this doesn't filter down to the average worker. Poltical rivalries between sites and divisions slows company down.

Former Employee - Software Developer Intern

I worked at Intel Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The compensation is more than competitive, and the benefits are good. Some holidays can be off, and there is a 6 month PAID LEAVE about every 7 years. The cafeterias are a nice bonus, but aren't free.
I got lucky with my working group, they were fantastic. They looked to build each others skills, and were up for code reviews.

    Cons

The company always wants to be faster, so part of the job is declining new projects that you can't handle.
Some groups can be very negative and energy draining.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Jump on the mobile movement, and plan ahead instead of trying to "move faster".
