Current Employee – been working at Johnson & Johnson
Pros – Work life balance, breadth of exposure, diversity of experience, business ethics in general, customer focus and business diversity a great hedge during turbulent times
Cons – Decentralized nature of business does make decision making convoluted. Complex IT systems make data based decision making a nightmare in some operating companies. Unstructured HR processes sometimes makes sycophancy and perception score over true abilities in career advancement
Advice to Senior Management – Better succession planning process, short term P&L focus can sometimes lead to incorrect decision for the long term good of the company

Former Employee – worked at Johnson & Johnson
Pros – JNJ offers a great career path within a respected company and category - namely healthcare. Multinational opportunities are at large.
Likewise, JNJ has a strong track record of innovation - allowing you to be at the forefront on new consumer insights and solutions.
Cons – Whereas the Credo is at the heart of leadership values at JNJ - on paper, these values are not always rigidly demanded of senior management to succeed. Allowing leaders to progress within the organisation while blatantly ignoring respect for the employee and for the customer - is happening. As a result, poor role models are emerging for employees to aspire towards.
Advice to Senior Management – It might be prudent to take a good look at direct employee feedback for each people leader, no matter how senior - and reasses if the results (shareholder metrics) do indeed outweight the first Credo responsibilities....

Former Employee – worked at Johnson & Johnson
Pros – Good opportunities to gain experience in the numerous businesses that make up the J&J Group of Companies.
Cons – They are obsessed with running projects that only focus on the J&J organisation internally. They need to actually speak to end customers and plan projects based on how they can meet their end customers expectations.
Advice to Senior Management – The customer is king, focus on meeting customers requirements and expectations. The brand reputation is excellent but prices are generally in the top quartile. Establish customer requirements and then ensure your business is aligned to meet to meet these requirements at the lowest possible cost. Times are hard, people are looking at cost and brand recognition is becoming less important to consumers.
