I have been working at MD Anderson as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Relaxed environment, great coworkers, and a general movement toward updated technologies. Great benefits for full-time employees. Job security. My manager is awesome, very understanding and accommodating of a good work/life balance.

    Cons

Still very outdated in many areas, poor opportunities for full-time employment or advancement, low salary range for full-time employees. Poor communication between departments and managers, very bureaucratic inner workings. Difficult change management system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Could improve communication standards across departments and between managers.

I have been working at MD Anderson full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Here you can work with smart researchers/scholars/clinicians, who may come from different countries and devote their lives in cancer-related researches. Meetings/symposium are held quite often, revealing new treatments/discovery. Academic atmosphere is very strong.

    Cons

Salary is limited by funding and mostly lower than expected. Also you can not stay in this position too long because it has a limit of years. Long work hours may be required, but it also depends on labs.

I have been working at MD Anderson full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They put the salary on their website, which is rare. Most companies don't do that. Also, the health benefits are pretty good, and it's pretty good job security.

    Cons

Horrible work/life balance. Very hard to schedule off and LOTS of rules and red tape with employees. They treat you like a number and there's a lot of gossip, politics, and they will overwork you. All in all, there are a lot of other hospitals I would recommend to work for that treat their employees way better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually listen to your employees. If they're happy, they will work harder. If you ignore their concerns or don't give them promotions/raises after years of dedicated service, it will show in their work. Offer more work/life balance and scheduling off should be way easier. Do NOT LET EMPLOYEES COME TO WORK SICK!

I worked at MD Anderson full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great co-workers, who for the most part work as a team and are GREAT at what they do. Lots of compassion for the patients.

    Cons

Staff is disrespected and unappreciated by management, work hours are long and though they say they promote work-life balance, try getting any time off (that you have earned) to spend with your family or go to see your Dr. We were constantly told that we needed to see more patients and do more procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold people accountable for what they do and DON'T do. Don't expect others to fill in the gaps that you or others leave and not reprimand those who don't do their jobs.

I have been working at MD Anderson

    Pros

They have a powerful mission- making cancer history. It makes you feel like your a part of something huge, bigger than yourself

    Cons

Bureaucracy, red tape, you could get in your work and just keep going 'cause everyone is too busy to stop for a minute. The skills are present, personality? especially when it comes to interdepartmental stuff?....it could be better.

I have been working at MD Anderson full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People stay here forever. It's a happy hospital. You work with people who are the top in their field almost all the time.

    Cons

It is concerned with maintaining it's position as #1 cancer center in America. There is some beaurocracy with that. Health insurance policy is only ok.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

An extra week of vacation, please!
