Former Employee – worked at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – I Loved working for this company. I was sad to see my position eliminated due to corporate reorganization in June of 2011.
Cons – Corporate restructuring led me to lose my position after 15 years with the company. It was sad and unfortunate to have to start over elsewhere after 15 years.

Former Employee – worked at Marriott full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Marriot is an excellant company to work that really embraces two mantras: "Success is never final," and "If you take care of your employees, then they'll take care of the guests'.
Cons – Marriott is a hotel management company and has to compete to win management contracts of various ownership groups. The benefits package offered to Marriott employees has been scaled back to be more competitive attracting hotel contracts.

Former Employee – worked at Marriott full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Good work environment; chance to work from home; many benefits including hotel discounts. You don't have bosses breathing down your back, and it is easy to get a good schedule with good performance and some seniority.
Cons – The pay is not enough to support a household. They want you to work overtime when you least want to work (summer, holidays, etc.). They encourage you to take time off when you need to work the most. You must maintain 92 percent of your work time on the phones, and your breaks must adhere to strict schedules.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the "Guaranteed Fair Treatment" policy and cut some slack to long-term employees with great service records.. The GTF policy treats good and bad workers equally.

Current Employee – been working at Marriott part-time for more than a year
Pros – I'm a full time student, and during down time when there aren't any guests arriving, I was able to study, do homework, and other things so that I didn't have to worry about it when I get off of work.
Cons – Not really a con, but they have long shifts, typically 7 AM to 3 PM and 3 PM to 11 PM straight. Home football games aren't fun either, usually having 200+ arrivals on a single night.

Current Employee – been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The people are great to work with. Very professional, talented and dedicated to the work they do. Good benefits.
Cons – I understand the need to review and eliminate some jobs, but it is very sad to see so many talented and dedicated employees about to be outsourced, and it seems the cuts are too broad and too deep.
Advice to Senior Management – Follow Mr. Marriott's advice, "Take care of your associates and they will take of you."

Current Employee – been working at Marriott full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Excellent Training, Great potential for career growth, and International Company.
Cons – Extremely political!!! Salary compensation is certainly below other hotel companies!!!
Advice to Senior Management – I really would like to see more career advancement of my peers based on work performance and not based on if one is liked on a personal level.
I really would like to see the company truly take a look at compensation particularly with managers. I applied for a for a promotion position and was offered the position. However, I struggled to decide if I wanted the position due to the low pay increase offered. It's extremely difficult when you are looking to advance and the advance requires relocation to an area where housing cost is 150-200% more then where you are currently located and the compensation increase less than is 11%.
