Awesome experience, taught me that I can be better and expect more of myself, great people.

Customer Care and Sales Specialist (Former Employee) San Antonio, TX (US)

    ProsMarriott gives great benefits.
    Starting wage is usually between 9 & 12 dollars/hr.
Always has some sort of benefit/fundraiser going on to help the community.
    Maintains new opportunities for growth.
If you have issues with someone they have an open door policy.
    Paid training
    Perks
    Discounts
    Total Compensation at high value

    ConsCan get repetitive
Can get boring if you don't stay active
    long hours
You have to bid for your schedule
If you have a change in school schedule, they don't change your schedule immediately (even with proof of school-work conflict) ; it cost me my job and it didn't matter the length I was there 1-2 yrs, or my review status of Satisfactory Performer, or the fact that I always took overtime to help the company. ((Still a good company))

Advice to Senior ManagementIf someone has a school schedule to work around, you should be able to allow the new schedule to take effect immediately as long as they prove they are in school for the hours they need to be excused. This flaw cost me my job because I was given an ultimatum to choose school or work.

At Corporate Tax Department (Former Employee) Bethesda, MD (US)

ProsGood work environment. My supervisors were willing to teach and help if you ask. They take good care of their employer, and it is a very positive and supportive environment, with good compensation. In return, I was motivated to work hard.

ConsStrict deadlines due to the nature of the tasks. The IT department is not the easiest to work with, not the most responsive.

Working here is very interesting and requires a high tolerance for incompetence.

Server (Current Employee) Philadelphia, PA (US)

ProsThe guest are great and you gain a large amount of experience.

ConsThe management is very unorganized and bad at communicating. Also most of the management is very young and inexperienced. This inexperience attributes to bad decision making and unwillingness to take advice from seasoned employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would hire management or supervisors that have more experience in the industry and are willing to take advice from all around. Also train the employees to better work as a team rather then against each other.

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)

    Prosbenefit is good
Mr Marriott has a sound philosophy about his company and employee

ConsMr Marriott's philosophy doesn't spread out into organization.
Once a manager is Spanish, you hardly find any employee except them.
HR doesn't support employee, only for managers

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to hire to someone who has knowledge about hotel industry, not just people who you know already.
    Managers should support employee
