Current Employee - Shoe Department in Cape May Court House, NJ (US)

    Pros

I work in the shoe department and time flies very fast since there are usually a ton of shoes to put out.

    Cons

Low wages and minimal hours, but the employees are usually a hoot to listen to. Customers are pretty much pigs and you must pick up after them as if they were kids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use more psychology to get more work done. Commissions should be given on credit apps. There was a time when this was so.

Former Employee - Cashier/Associate in Fairfax, VA (US)

    Pros

It is a very diverse employee pool. However, the majority of the employees are great to work with. Many are willing to help each other through out the shift despite some cultural and language barriers. If you like shopping this particular store you get a decent discount considering they already have low prices.

    Cons

The customers can be inconsiderate by making a mess through the store and sometimes expecting a discount on an already discounted item. It can be physically demanding on busy weekends as you try to keep your department looking presentable due to inconsiderate customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the hard work of your employee.

    Pros

The co-workers and managers are all very good people. Easy to talk to management about problems with schedule and some of the store policies. The managers are respectful of different cultures and try to make the work environment as friendly as possible while maintaining a professional relationship.

    Cons

Some of the customers are obnoxious, and difficult to deal with. The Rewards Credit Card is given too much attention while other products by TJX- the Access Card and gift cards- are given little attention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train the cashiers to be faster when ringing up customers, and inform them about the Access Rewards card.

Former Employee - Sales Associate/Cashier in Sacramento, CA (US)

    Pros

Generally friendly atmosphere. The work and routine is easy to learn and coworkers are always willing to help out.

    Cons

Sometimes having one person in an entire department makes closing at the end of the day a little difficult, especially during holidays. Managers don't seem to care about associates, as long as credits are sold and the store closes on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think it's fine when I see managers just standing around and surveying the store, but when extra help is needed it wouldn't hurt to jump in. Sometimes the two week notice for RTOs cuts it a little close.

    Pros

Flexible Scheduling (for womens department), 20% off sales for employees several times a year, You get to interact with customers (which I love), 45 minute lunches!

    Cons

Theft happens ALOT, customers are sometimes rude, sales floor can get messy quickly, clothes in the fitting room can be overwhelming, not enlighten people may be working in your department to help you when it gets busy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schedule more people for busy shifts! Make more strict rules when it comes to theft, train employees for different areas instead of one
