Business model strong, growth great

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at MasterCard

ProsAt the center of a profitable, dynamic industry.

ConsStrong business model means it can be hard to tie effort to results.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on accountability and how people really manage (not managing up). Allow more real innovation unleashed from the core technology limitations and requirements that are for network operations, not new intiative development. Move around key executives to allow for fresh perspectives.

Great salary, confusing structure

Senior Business Leader (Current Employee)
Purchase, NY (US)

I have been working at MasterCard full-time for more than 3 years

ProsBenefits, commute, smart people. Company tries to create an innovation culture but it is a struggle. Very relationship based, which can be a pro for some people.

ConsEveryone is in charge to the point that no one is. Long tenured employees make change extremely difficult. Structure hinders progress, consensus culture. Complete lack of process consistency in all areas. New leaders come in and we are always starting all over again.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the the structure and create talent pool depth.

Depressing

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
O'Fallon, MO (US)

I worked at MasterCard full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSalary, flexibility, some very smart and innovative people

ConsFor a company that is suppose to be cutting edge on innovation, mobile commerce, and technology, getting anything actually completed is at a snail's pace. Too much bureacracy, constant backstabbing. Anyone with an ounce of ethics is miserable which is fortunate for the company because most employees don't have any.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't put so much trust in your business leaders. Many of them are using your money for boondoggles, awarding millions of dollars in contracts to friends and relatives, and taking three hour lunches.
