A great place to work with great people, and a good first step into an industry.

Former Employee - Laboratory Analyst  in  Calgary, AB (Canada)
Former Employee - Laboratory Analyst in Calgary, AB (Canada)

    Pros

Great management staff, fantastic workplace policies, and the corporate culture is one that respects employees first. The management staff would routinely come around making sure that each employees needs were being met, and if not they would work towards rectifying whatever was wrong.

    Cons

Shift work among temporary workers, and in the busy season long hours. There is a continual deadline for processed work, but that is the nature of a laboratory that operates based on client contracts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps a third mid day to early evening shift during the busy season would alleviate some of the strain on some workers.

Current Employee - Analyst in Montreal, QC (Canada)

    Pros

Good first experience, easy to be hired, possibility for some promotions

    Cons

Lots of Romanian people (including supervisors) ~ 60 % of staff. They have family company in Montreal. If you are not Romanian, supervisors don't respect you as a human. Easy to loose a job sometimes without proper reason, including at a permanent position.
Another problem: low salary, which almost doesn't increase even after years of experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Totally change management, take out 30 % of Romanians, increase salary.

Former Employee - Laboratory Technician in Burnaby, BC (Canada)

    Pros

Friendly environment and very supportive staff. Superiors are not shy in training subordinate if great interest is visible.

    Cons

Poor hours. Long hours: no work-life balance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management have to let system break sometimes to remedy the real problem, instead of patch things up on the spot. e.g., adding significant hours of over time. There should be a better coordination between sales group and laboratory group.

    Pros

work with them, they will work with you. Work hard and you will be rewarded in the most non-monetary way possible.

    Cons

lack of a living wage for 90 % + of the staff, high turnover = money saver mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current Employee - Project Manager  in  Edmonton, AB (Canada)
Current Employee - Project Manager in Edmonton, AB (Canada)

    Pros

Great entry level experience, is a good stepping stone for other jobs. Pay is decent within the industry, but still below similar jobs. Free lunches 2-3 times a month. Health benefits are great. Great health and safety culture.

    Cons

Huge pressure from management around deadlines. Little room to grow within the company. Will occasionally be called in to work OT/weekends (not the worst thing, but still).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary needs to be more competitive, especially in the Petroleum LOB. You're losing great employees to better paying jobs in Fort McMurray and elsewhere.
