I worked at McKesson full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The compensation package was good for my market. I heard others complain in different cities.

    Cons

Senior management did not listen to the front-line managers. Suggesting and promoting improvements had to be presented in such a way that the senior manager thought it was his idea. Seemed more worried about unionization than being fair to all employees. Very clique-like environment...reminded me of high school. Working evenings and nights began to stink (but I knew the hours going in)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not every hourly employee has the companies best interest at heart. Take what they are telling you with a grain of salt and then look at the numbers...your front-line managers are usually correct. McKesson has a great set of core values, maybe you should follow them.

I have been working at McKesson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to work from home
    Company car

    Cons

You have to move to tiny towns to get an account manager position. Very political. Also, never got a raise in the 3 years I worked there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care.

I worked at McKesson as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

They have liberal desktop software and storage policies....no hassle in saving data or upgrading software.

    Cons

With an 8 to 1 ratio of Indians/Russians/Chinese H1B employees to Americans, salaries and pay rates are very constrained here.
Consultants are treated like dirt for the most part.
If something goes wrong in your engagement, you'll be let go without any advanced notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

McKesson corporate management likely is unaware of what is occurring in this wholely owned subsidiary.
Communication emanating from MHS executives is likely tainted or falsified.
They should form a committee to investigate.

I worked at McKesson (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good health and wellness benefits.
There are opportunities to work remotely.
    Some flexibility with hours.
Middle managers who actually care about their teams.

    Cons

Company has layoffs every year at the end of fiscal year in March.
Some departments are sinking faster then the Titanic because of bad decisions made by upper management so they are having mass lay offs.
Pay is lower than other companies.
Raises are very minuscule...it's mainly a cost of living adjustment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start holding upper management responsible for making bad business decisions.
Before having mass lay offs each year, at least have knowledge transfers and train those who are left.
Listen to those who are actually doing all the work so you know what clients want and what the challenges are so you can make better decisions.

I have been working at McKesson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I am fortunate to work in a great department with wonderful people and a very caring boss. Other departments in this company are not like this.

    Cons

Pay is low, by design, compared to other companies in the industry. They figure you are compensated in other ways by working here, which is somewhat true. Raises and career advancement are difficult.
