    Pros

Good place to work for a first job to learn about the industry. Very supportive.

    Cons

There can be a lot of red tape to accomplish tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should provide a bit more career development support.

    Pros

Great life-saving technologies; smart people, good benefits, focus on patient outcomes as well as numbers. Business units have own, distinct culture

    Cons

Large bureaucracy, change/implementation slow. No work-life balance. Politics. Silos. Limited resources against expectation, restructuring challenges, strategy implementation versus reality, prioritization; limited structure to support cross-BU integration

I have been working at Medtronic

    Pros

Some terrific coworkers, good educational and training opportunities, a mission that stands the test of time.

    Cons

Little work life balance. Travel is valued disproportionately more than other contributions. Career movement too dependent on manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaders: formulate and communicate a clear strategy and don't micromanage your employees' plans and tactics.

I worked at Medtronic full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many people aligned with the mission of the company. Great products. Great financial strength. Medtronic hires motivated, highly educated and qualified people.

    Cons

Political, with VP-level leadership out of touch with reality and how business is done in the 21st century. CEO and Europe Head (Rob ten Hoedt) are brilliant and visonary and want the right things to happen in the company. The level below them, unfortunately, generally consists of politicians with too much time in the company to know what good performance and best practice actually look like. Medtronic is too inward looking and is a very change averse place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people who report to your people rather than just blindly trusting what your direct reports are telling you. There is alot of knowledge, experience and perspective from outside of Medtronic you could tap into to accelerate change and to position MDT for success in the new market environment.

I have been working at Medtronic full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work stability. The benefit package is good but not spectacular or the best is average. You can retire if from here if you have no development interest or grow interest inside of the company.

    Cons

Scare tactics are used to modify employee behavior. No work-life balance. The work-life balance is only to there favor. Promotions to preffered employees. Little to none growth for certain levels. Manufacturing is too stressful and does not need to be like that for the work to be completed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The best resource of the company is the employee. Employees can make a company a success or a 483 receiver... Don't squeeze them... Nourish them... or at least be fair to all not to a few of your liking.

I have been working at Medtronic full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Everyone truly believes in the mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life
    - Benefits are generous
    - There is a high culture of respect and trust

    Cons

    - It is a large corporation that is slow to move and navigate through its own red tape
    - Medronic is very risk-adverse and cautious.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more chances. Risk to the patients will never be an option, but there are many business opportunities that could truly revolutionize the medical field that are left untapped due to a reluctance to try drastically new ideas. Medtronic would be healthier to collaborate with outside innovators and continue to bring new talent in.
