Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at NBCUniversal

ProsExciting to work for such a big company in the entertainment industry. Free coffee, tea and fruit is definitely a plus. Great location.

ConsDoesn't have much connection/communication to Domestic so work opportunities don't exactly cross those borders, which is a disappointment. Not much else.

Advice to Senior ManagementAid in post internship career development for those who committed so much free time to the company. Update Microsoft software.

Good people but too many menial tasks

PR Intern (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at NBCUniversal

ProsDecent tasks. Nice people. I only worked there for two months, so it's hard for me to give a good assesment; but I consider my experience to be positive overall.

ConsOccasional "busy work". Ambiguous expectations from managers. Again, I was only there for two months so my assessment is pretty surface-level.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive more frequent and higher quality feedback to employees. Try to eliminate "busy work". Continue allowing company previews of Universal movie releases.

Good global company

Business Manager (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at NBCUniversal

Pros-The comapny has great brand name and you shall feel proud to work here
-Diverse portfolio
-Interesting business
-Hard working people

Cons-The comapny needs to streamline communications and processes
-The comapny needs to value more mid level managers and leadership pipelines

Advice to Senior Management-NBC universal is a great global company yet has opportunities to improve communications, simplified processes and talent development in an open and encouraging environment.

A good product, (mostly) decent people, but too much bureaucracy and a failure to back up strategy with money

Director (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at NBCUniversal

ProsAll the Big Company benefits (crawl into the womb)
Global business with lots of opportunities
You're working for a company with a great product

ConsBureaucracy. It takes months to get anything done.
Yet meanwhile, much of the internal process is shambolic. Finance and HR functions are resource-starved and hence slow and sloppy. I have several colleagues whose Visa applications were 'lost' or otherwise wrecked by HR. And I was amused to be told I'd spent $500k on personal train tickets in one month...

Advice to Senior ManagementStrategy needs to be aligned with Finance. Telling people that XXX is a key growth business and then cutting 20% from the budget is a waste of everyone's time. Put your money where your mouth is or stop pretending.

Never wanted to leave

Intern (Former Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I worked at NBCUniversal as an intern for less than a year

ProsIt is just such a huge, powerful, and amazing company I was just in awe of being there every day. I got to do so many fun things that I did not even mind waking up super early and having a long commute. I got to go to talent appearances, movie premieres, press junkets, and watch movies...and was paid for it.

ConsA lot of down time because they don't want to give interns big important tasks (understandable)

Advice to Senior ManagementMake room for more entry level positions so interns can get hired full time!

Excellent place to get your foot in the door

MSNBC (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at NBCUniversal part-time for more than 3 years

ProsFast-paced and surrounded by hard-working people, I always felt like I was accomplishing something and being productive when I worked here. The people were very conscientious compared to some other networks that I have worked at. Definitely my favorite network to have worked at.

ConsThe money is competitive compared to the competition, but raises and bonuses are hard to come by. For a company steeped in making entertainment, there were not many perks open to employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncentivize employees by opening the door for them to access more of the content they create, be it the theme parks, shows, or memorabilia that their hard work produces. In the past, a lot of corporations structured something around involving employees and their families, yet in all of my time here, I saw nothing of the sort. Make this more of a place that employees want to integrate into their family somehow.

Great company to be a part of

Marketing Intern (Former Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I worked at NBCUniversal as an intern for less than a year

ProsAt NBCUniversal there's always room to grow and expand and network, which is a big plus. Even though it is a large company there is a sense of community and family. The company offers great perks and treat employees well.

ConsIts a big company - easy to feel lost in if you don't network appropriately and reach out. As an intern especially, you have to work hard to make yourself seen and heard, and to prove your value.
