    Pros

Very diverse company with lots of opportunities across the globe. My experience is of fast moving challenging work in a team of really nice people.

    Cons

Honestly can't think of anything significant. The base salaries are not the highest in the industry but this is balanced out by a great working environment and good culture.

    Pros

good learning curve. Very useful for future.

    Cons

Learning depends on the project we work, sometimes seems very slow process.

I have been working at National Oilwell Varco as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunities are available if you seek for them. Ask around to get trained in other positions. Learn whatever you can and you'll move up.

    Cons

Hours are sometimes long but the industry is mostly like this so there aren't that many choices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication!! Departments don't talk to each other about what's going on. Upper management never lets employees know what's going on with the company. It doesn't feel like a community.

I worked at National Oilwell Varco as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The best thing about working at NOV was the office culture. All of the employees were very dedicated to the company and the work they are doing.

    Cons

The company seems like they could hire more employees. We were constantly behind on work because there was not enough individuals to get things done.

I worked at National Oilwell Varco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Internal job transfers are fairly easy. Work pace is not pressured. On Call schedule varies depending on how many sales people you have working at a given branch. Most all of their service end / rental divisions pay quite well and treat their employees fairly well.

    Cons

Lack of accountability. Even when it came to upper management, it seemed as though people just turned a blind eye to a lot of issues that needed to be addressed. One past worker got drunk and wrecked a work truck and then applied for a store manager position / transfer and it was accepted! Depending on what division of the company you worked for, it seemed there was a wide range when it came to whether or not people cared if they got your business. Their smith fiberglass division was especially bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out from people below the managers what's going on. If inventory is constantly off and product isn't getting reordered.... someone is NOT doing their job.

I have been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is directed towards NOV Rig Solution- Sugar Land, Tx. Awesome benifits, mediocre starting pay, but the benifits are awesome (oh I said that already), They have a wonderful HSE culture, when there is someone to guide it.

    Cons

Lack of opportunity to advance, poor communication from management down to employees. RS-SGL still considers itself to be Baylor Brakes, with nominal attention paid to NOV Corporate, in my opinion.
