Current Employee – been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time for less than a year
Pros – Independent working involving minimal oversight if you know what you're doing to get the job done. Base pay is low, however it is offset by additional pays when going out on jobs, transit time, and per diem with great health/dental/vision benefits.
Cons – Workload changes constantly. Can have periods where you get paid doing nothing and other times when you'll be out day after day getting rigs up and running.

Current Employee – been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – They have excellent benefits. Business always seems good so long term employment is a plus.
Cons – At the Sugarland facility management is terrible. You have to be in the inner circle to advance or be bad at your job. People are viewed as expendable so there is a large turnover in employees. You hardly ever see people smile out there.
Advice to Senior Management – There needs to be a change in management from the top all the way down to the shops. Old leaders with old ideas or ones who just don't care about the people. It's stagnant and needs new fresh leadership who cares about the people who actually make production happen. Without the shop employees this facility and any other are useless.

Former Employee – worked at National Oilwell Varco full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Major player in the oil&gas with great potential, interesting innovative products, solid benefits and fair job security with very good work/life balance ratio
Cons – My biggest gripe with this company is next to no cross-talk across teams, lot's of replication and redundancy is being done as the company keeps going through one re-org after another. It has some smart individuals at various levels - but the mid level management seems to be the major hand-brake
