I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time

    Pros

Good environment and funding. Nice colleagues and easy to fit in. The salary is fair enough to live in Singapore and better than US schools.

    Cons

Regulation is very strict. May take long time to process. But better than some US universities.

I worked at National University of Singapore as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you were positive, active, you will meet lots of intelligent people and learn a lot. And you will also have many opportunities to develop physical strength and abilities.

    Cons

Your development depends on yourself very much as a PhD researcher/student. You must be active, open, otherwise no one else will care much about you.

I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time

    Pros

Most of the faculty and students are great to work with. Very good work/life balance and quite a pro-family place.

    Cons

The office politics can be out of hand. Some departments are very poorly managed. Very high turnover rate. Management of admin and executive staff needs a lot of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Big overhaul of the way admin/exec staff are managed and treated is needed.

I worked at National University of Singapore full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Didn't see any pros. I mean, it's a well known university, but there are many well known ones, and NUS doesn't stand out too much from them in terms of working comfort or anything that adds value to the working life.

    Cons

Overly bureaucratized. For a research university one has to fill up endless forms and attend endless trainings, when am I supposed to do the actual research?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the paperwork, let the secretaries and the purchasing department deal with it. Trust more to your employees.

    Pros

Huge compound with lots of very affordable food and unbeatable transportation within the compound. Great staff benefits.

    Cons

Tonnes of paperwork given the amount of administrative work involved in procurement and multi-step processes. Rigid structure makes it unsuitable for a creative individual.
