Great company, great people.

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
Washington, DC (US)

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsNavigant provides a great opportunity to learn on various projects and it is relatively easy to move from project to project.

ConsSometimes you can get stuck working on a project on and off for years at a time. It is not like other consulting firms where you get experience working on shorter term projects.

Good Exposure, but management has poor foresight

Managing Consultant (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX (US)

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGot to work with numerous high power clients

ConsSince it is publicly traded, they are constantly turning over head count. A constant cycle of hire and fire.

Advice to Senior ManagementSince what you have to sell is expertise, invest in the resources you already have and hold onto them in the mild down turns, otherwise your "brain trust" get depleted and you have to quickly fill it with unknown assets.

Not as hands on as I would like, but definitely exposed to a lot of experience and senior level consultants.

Intern (Current Employee)
Washington, DC (US)

I have been working at Navigant Consulting as an intern for less than a year

ProsWorked with very experienced consultants who were eager to share their knowledge.

ConsNot at much analytical/testing experience for interns

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to give interns more field-related activities instead of HR-focused work.

Severely Underpaid

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Comfortable, mundane, monotonous job.
- Good work hours
- Great location - in downtown New York City, Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco

Cons- Underpaid compared to all other consulting firms or industry.
- Few vacation days.
- Non challenging projects, therefore hurting future career opportunities.
- Bad promotion opportunities and bonuses (<$1000).

Advice to Senior ManagementPay employees what they deserve based on market demands.

If you know the right people, and push hard to shape your fate you'll be fine

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat people in mid/junior levels, who are like minded and adhere to similar values. Good exposure to clients early on if you have skills that are needed and valued.

ConsSenior management needs to be more transparent and sell projects that directly fit with junior employee expertise. Staffing the right person at the right time is crucial, and underselling projects may make clients happy, but make project staff unhappy and feeling less valued.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire the right people for your projects, or take projects that fit with the caliber of people you hire.

Challenging and intellectually stimulating work, great teammates, terrible work/life balance

Consultant (Current Employee)
San Francisco, CA (US)

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

ProsThe case work can be very interesting and engaging, people in general are great, employees are treated well, hard work is noticed and rewarded

ConsWork/life balance is challenging as hours can be extremely long, mistakes are considered to be earth-shattering, compensation is not great considering hours worked

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

It is just a stop in your very long career...

Associate Director (Former Employee)

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat people to share time with!
Leadership is open to trying new things!
If you want to be involved with new internal initiatives there is always work.

ConsPay is weak.
Promotions will come once you inform them you are leaving.
The benefit package is sub-par.
The streets prospective of Navigant's financial performance determines the overall lack of culture.
Too many acquisitions that are never properly melded.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo many thinkers not enough doers...AD and above represent a large portion of the work force which does limit the growth of the growth of the junior staff. Focus on organic growth to respond to the needs of the clients.

Consulting

Senior Coordinator (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIt's a consulting company. If you're consulting and bring in your numbers you'll get ahead.

ConsIt's a consulting company, operations have little to no upward mobility, promotions, or salary increases.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you're on the consulting side, it's a good place to work. Everyone else, just know what you're getting into.
