Former Employee - Human Resources Manager in London, England

I worked at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary, remote working if wished, benefits, interesting work

    Cons

Not always enough work. Constant up and downs as to whether the stuff I was working on was core business or not. Massive downsizing periodically which was only implemented actively in countries where it was easy to fire people. Specifically Germany seemed to take ages to lose people and they all got monster packages

Current Employee - Senior Engineer in Farnborough, Hampshire, South East England, England

I have been working at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some good talented people at engineer level willing to share their knowledge and help colleagues to blossom. Occasional able to work on new technologies.

    Cons

At the best middle and senior management is inept and incompetent at worst spiteful and malignant. Despite assertions there is no proper budget for training or development. salaries have remained static for years, pensions and healthcare badly reduced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Concentrate on quality not price and sales will return continual cuts just mean the product will become worse and sales will decline.

    Cons

    Low pay and benefits.
Cost cutting has gone too far. No event, no celebration, no canteen, even no coffee at work.
No prospect of career growth - career cul-de-sac.
Uncertain future. Anytime any unit can go bust. No visibility beyond 6 months.

Good people in a disorganized organization

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Nokia Networks

    Pros

*Many employees know their job well and are supportive of others
*Strong portfolio of telecoms infrastructure equipment and software solutions
*Competent Services offering around own products

    Cons

*Difficult times with strong competition from chinese vendors
    *Constant reorganizations
*Heavy beaurocracy/processes mean focus on customer is lost

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start with the customer, then build your organization around that. Avoid unneeded processes/procedures. Let sales and marketing focus more on customers and working with them proactively rather than on internal issues.

  10.

    Going through difficult times

I have been working at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Maintaining a leadership role in the industry

    Cons

Heavy processes and demotivated staff due to redundancies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More empowerment to employees is needed to free up individuals to do their job

  11.

Current Employee - Head of Department in Fleet, South East England, England
Current Employee - Head of Department in Fleet, South East England, England

I have been working at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Was offered the job, pay was negotiable and even included a welcome bonus as they couldn't match what i was asking for. Company has great people with great skills, good collaboration between most forks on an individual basis. Formal communication channels are useless

    Cons

Company is continuously restructuring/reorganising. Moving people from one department to another with no real strategy or benefit. They no longer invest in the future and have resigned themselves to trying to go head to head with the Chinese on cost and innovation. Not a wise strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop reorganising and focus on investment and growth.
Completely replace the entire Services management structure with people who understand services. Build a complete separate business for services that isn't linked to the other global/regional structures. Or just sell it off and be done, the wider company simply doesn't understand it.
Don't go head to head with the Chinese, you ain't going to win.
Completely renew you software R&D processes, they're still in the 1990s and your lifecycle timeline proves it.
