Former Employee – worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Talented Managers are rewarded! If you are a talented manager (even a budding manager) you will be rewared with $ and opportunities...there are over 2000 stores with more opening and getting remodels!
Opportunites galor!
Great Staff from top to bottom!
Did I mention I no longer work there? However, I know there will always be a place for me there! I have always and will always speak highly of Pier 1 Imports.
You have a corporate staff who take significant time in creating a team atmosphere with trainings, celebrations, and recognition!
You have employees (sales associates) there for +10 years. Divisional and regional members of management who started as sales associates. Regional and Divisional members of management who will move your displays (and not just the little ones) to help and teach you!
Cons – There are a limited amount of full time positions!
Like any other retail business members of management are the only full time positions (and Home Office...it would be a dream!!)
Moving furniture! Sad but true. The end result is worth it...but truth be told...in the moment (and there are plenty) it stinks!
Advice to Senior Management – Work hard!
Yes you will be moving furniture but if you're, truly, a Pier 1 person you'll love the end results.
Be genuine with a smile...remember you're the host and the customers are your guests. Youre managment team and sales associates will get you there if you are always fair.
Here is the biggest. Your hiring process is #1. If you think at any moment this person does not represent the brand...do not hire them!! You have to represent your customer base with your store's sales team.

Current Employee – been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – There is a lot of variety in day to day activities and workload. There is always something new happening and the job is never dull. The company values employee feedback and is always working to improve processes. Store managers are not mico-managed. There is some room for creativity and initiative is recognized.
Cons – It is a very physically demanding job, lots of walking and heavy lifting, very little sitting. There is a very broad assortment of merchandise in relatively small space that can be difficult to deal with. To be truly successful a GM needs to work long hours. Compensation is relatively is low and associate retention is a challenge.

Former Employee – worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – Was a good part-time, minimum wage job.
Cons – Quickly realized there was little room to move up. Store manager had been there for years. Other sales associates who had been there for years were planning on moving on because they couldn't get any semblance of a promotion. Other retail places seem to have more opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management – Give us more credit! I felt small and replaceable (I guess I was).

Current Employee – been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Employee discount, fun merchandise, working with great customers, leading talented associates, great home office
Cons – New regional manager every 3 months. It is difficult to build mentoring/business relationships when there is so much inconsistency. There is a lot of pettiness and little remains confidential with senior management.
Advice to Senior Management – Please fill your positions in a timely manner. It creates low morale and it is a difficult working environment.

Current Employee – been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – -Good first job to learn retail, but get out AS SOON as you find something better-- even a little better
-25% additional employee discount, even on promotional sale items (up to 45% off, though I've heard that's not much in other jobs)
Cons – -No matter HOW HARD you work, you will NOT get a raise until at LEAST a year of employment. And that's not even guaranteed. Some people get about .05 or up to .17 on their year raises. And management acts so gracious about it.
-Daily demands, including making at least 5 people sign up for spam email or more junk mail, and weekly, playing with people's credit for a very faulty system (Pier 1 Rewards Credit Card)
-Physically demanding, mentally draining. Climb up ladders and grab chairs, greeting every single customer and bothering them about signing up for the catalog, or the card, or the promotions, or this-or-that. The rule is "until they say stop three times"...
Advice to Senior Management – Pay your employees accordingly for doing a good job.
Stop with the catalog and pier 1 card. The card is more hassle than it saves people's money.

Current Employee – been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – You meet some nice people both customers and co workers alike. Pretty good discount if you like the merchandise there. Very unique things all over the store.
Cons – Right from the start expect to work a lot for minimum wage or just a little above it. You are expected to do shipment, clean, assemble furniture, help customers, and work the register. The hours are very much limited, and the work expectations for the amount of hours you are there for are sometimes unrealistic, and illogical. It's a bad investment of time. If it were money which in reality is because you do get paid; let's just say you'll lose more than what you make. Flex shifts are the most ridiculous thing ever, you have to call 2 hours before to see if they need you to come in. To break it down Flex shifts are a way to bring in extra help if the store is selling a lot which in lamest terms they are making profit, and if you are not needed then the company doesn't have to lose extra money which they are not making. So basically when you have a flex shift it's like you have to put your life on hold for 2 hours before to see if your needed or not. You may have a few small accidents such as cutting yourself with the blade cutters if your not careful, but that's a matter of individual safety. Sometimes you are expected to climb high up the latter(s) and it can get dangerous if no one is there to hold it.
Advice to Senior Management – Marketing is a pretty big umbrella and under it is a specific section called Customer Service. Customer service starts out with supply and demand for a product, but the final sale of a product is at the lowest level which comes down to the store associates. Customers look for not just what they see and like, but also an experience. When employee hours, and schedules are fixed (without flex shifts) then expect a greater amount of good customer service. Good customer service creates customer loyalty and thus generates customer equity. Lower level employees don't live off 4hrs. a day and 20hrs. a week, and after a while they grow tired of giving a lot for little in return. I've seen the wearing on employees who have only been there a few months. I think Pier 1 imports needs to re evaluate the value of an employee because it's a store that gets many customers and out of 20 customers at least 9 of them have questions, and that's almost half.

Former Employee – worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than a year
Pros – My peers and submitting my resignation.
Cons – Working as a member of management in the Savannah, GA DC was one of the worst experiences that I have ever encountered in my career. It was one of the most unprofessional enviroments that I have worked in. This company has no concept of work-life balance, working their supervisors 70 to 80 hours a week. The upper management team acted in a disrespectful and unethical manner. Resigning from this job has been one of the best decisions I have made in quiite some time.
Advice to Senior Management – Close your Savannah DC or change the DC Director(dictator)

Current Employee – been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – Amazing coworkers and customers make this job one of the best I've ever had. The items we sell also keep me entertained daily, so much to look at and learn about! 25% discount is awesome too.
Cons – The pay isn't that great compared to other places. Transition is awful especially when you have to be there until 4am the next morning. Having to shove the card down everyones throats is annoying too.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't micromanage. Hire people who you know will be able to do the job without you watching their back every second.
