I have been working at Qualcomm

    Pros

Exciting technologies, a chance to change how customers use mobile technologies. The people you work with are mostly great. There are plenty of resources for things like equipment.

    Cons

The appraisal process is poor, there are no real reviews, even though there are two a year, little happens in looking back over the last 6 months, you're scored, but there's little in the way of discussion. Training is sporadic and project planning is haphazard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let release engineering wire themselves into the process so only humans can roll a release.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Qualcomm in general has a strong culture and genuinely seems to care about its employees. They provide a lot of opportunities for development, and good compensation, especially for strong performers.

    Cons

Perhaps this is typical of large companies, but they need to look at trimming the fat in mid management levels. There are too many people with minimal contributions who have their position merely because of seniority and playing political games. On the positive side, it seems like efforts are being made in this area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trim the fat, and make sure to take care of your best people.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for Qualcomm for 4 years, since the startup that I worked for was bought out.
I love the direction the company is moving in and the vision of the executive management team.
The review process is transparent and provides opportunities for growth.
    Great work-life balance.

    Cons

I honestly can't think of any. All around a great company to work for.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Qualcomm is one the best companies to work for. The salary is above national average and Qualcomm is one of the high paying companies. The benefits are really awesome, you get full health care coverage with very little copay.

If you are ambitious and hard working, Qualcomm is really good company to start your career and move forward.

    Cons

Sometimes the work gets hectic. Salary although high and Qualcomm is among best paying companies, it still not as high as compared to other giants like Google or Microsoft. Hence Qualcomm may have issues in retaining talent.

Bonuses and stocks are given to employees but again they could be much higher.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If Qualcomm wants to.retain their top talent they should really start paying their top performing engineer higher salary so they are not tempted by offers from other companies and also give much higher bonuses and stock grants.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time

    Pros

    - Company products are in devices that everyone uses
    - Company delivers very complex solutions for very demanding customers
    - Very good chance for traveling on the job

    Cons

    - Has grown into a very large company, so your mileage will vary
    - Large corporate feel, politics can be a factor, less than ideal collaboration between teams

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more forthright in discussing the business in terms of ongoing challenges and competitors. Be more willing to take risks in growing the business with new product categories

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

You will have fulfilling experience of playing your part in enabling the leading mass market mobile technologies, and good learnings

    Cons

Often you can be bypassed easily and recognition for your contributions is not so straight forward. Moving to next level can be hard as company gets saturated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle level management needs more open-minded and performance based.
