Oakbrook Terrace, IL (US)

Former Employee – worked at Redbox full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Good benefits. Better than average insurance. Base pay fairly competative. Bonus was usually above 100%. Nice office space, usually snacks in kitchen. Wellness plan
- Some professional development support. Internal training for manager. Decent onboarding process
- Tries to promote good corporate culture. Quarterly meetings, Holiday party, summer picnic, department events

Cons- Rapidly changing priorities that border on chaos. Everything is "priority 1". A lot of things get done, but get done poorly.
- Too much system knowledge held with only a few key people, many of them contractors
- Lots of internal politics and closed door deals, this has increasingly gotten worse as the company grows
- Weak PMO. Most "ScrumMasters" have no idea what Agile is or how to guide their teams to follow it.
- Unrealistic expectations from the business about when technology solutions can be delivered

Advice to Senior ManagementDefine consistent technology processes and hold people accountable to follow it. Do not promote people based on politics but rather skill and experience. Staff appropriately and allow projects to be completed with quality. Improve communication between the business and technology, there is a lot of ill will generated because of poor communication and rumors. Be more thoughtful about outside hires, don't just hire someone because they know someone or to meet some quota targer/deadline, really see if they are a culture fit. You have some good people working there that are becoming increasingly checked out because it costs too much mental sanity to keep caring.

Former Employee – worked at Redbox full-time

ProsOnly pro I could find is the unlimited amount of movies you can watch

ConsHorrible field manager...Unsafe working conditions. Company does not allow employee to protect themselves from harm. Kioks are at some really bad locations. For the little pay they offer, your life is not worth it Most employees carry guns, but the company prohibits any form of protection. If you complain about your supervisor you will pay for it.
Stey away from this company at all costs....

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of some of the managers that have no people skills....Shouldn't be managers in the first place...

Current Employee – been working at Redbox part-time for more than 7 years

ProsGood Pay
Decent Vacation Time
52 cents per mile reimbursement
Working alone, self supervised

ConsUse your personal car to travel from kiosk to kiosk
Working on outside kiosks in bad/cold weather
Part of your review is based on a secret shopper who might visit a kiosk after someone smashed the touch screen or vandalised the machine and it counts against you.

Knoxville, TN (US)

Current Employee – been working at Redbox full-time for more than a year

ProsOK benefits,a few perks & somewhat flexible schedule (less so all the time)
Casual dress code.

ConsLittle or no comunication with the field. The field is held to higher standards than the Directors.
When we make a mistake it reduces our bonus, when Corporate makes a mistake they take no ownership! We seem to be the last to know when changes are made! If your not willing to work off the clock, you won't last long!

Advice to Senior ManagementVp's cut the layers & comunicate directly with the field.

Current Employee – been working at Redbox full-time for less than a year

ProsThe employees are treated very well within the company offering many great benefits outside of the normal health care and time off. Excellent 401K matching, concierge service and even stock grants if you are high enough level. All employees are eligible for a bonus. Salaries are competitive (I'm in HR, so I know). some of the most intelligent and creative people I know work here. No real dress code, people can wear t-shirts and jeans if you like. The pace is very fast and you need to be ready for it. Management does a good job listening to its employees and often come to us for new ideas. Also, most people are working 40 - 45 hrs a week. there may be times you need to work more, but we value work life balance.
Rated 15 on Forbes top 100 fastest growing companies in 2012, so career opportunities are plentiful.

ConsConstant change is a pro and con. If this is something you cannot keep up with, you will easily fall behind.
