ProsGrowth potential is there, there is lots of new changes everyday, as they are merging. The atmosphere is aggressive

ConsCo-workers tend to be clannish, and at the end of the day there has been some petty stuff. And you might get better perks if you are a who you know type of person.

South Houston, TX (US)

Former Employee – worked at Reliant Energy full-time for more than a year

ProsGood compensation, room for growth, professional work place, friendly environment, refreshments for employees, bosses are friendly and supportive, fun activities to improve relationship between employees, transparency between different departments. Overtime opportunity. Upper managers are attentive and notice, encourage employee performance.

ConsStress from angry customers, office in downtown so lunches are expensive and have to walk far. Difficult to move to other departments even the jobs are more suitable with interests, education because of the current position in customer service.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to be attentive to employee performance and needs. Give opportunities for employees to move within the company.

Former Employee – worked at Reliant Energy

ProsPay is good and feedback on activities is given. Moreover junior cadre gel in well and are friendly. You can sometimes move up fast if you are in the proper lobby. Visibility is often there. Immediate bosses are supportive of their juniors

ConsManagement lacks vision and often makes erratic decisions. Factionalism is rife and your advancement depends on your sycophancy and the faction you are in. Juniors are not well treated by the middle management. Company lacks standard operating procedures in work and too much depends on the individual with no fail safe mechanisms in place.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease avoid the perennial firefighting mode. Take sound decisions at the corporate levels like viability of the projects to be taken up. More often than not management indulges in value destruction. Further please try to control this sycophancy culture and curb factionalism

Prosa big organization with opportunities to move around the company, to gain exposure in different field while participating in cross-functional projects

Consan older firm that changes slowly, sometimes behind the pace of market, business might out-grown the in-house systems from time to time

Advice to Senior Managementprovide more transparency on company direction, more team bonding environment that would increase productivity and efficiency, lead by example when situation arises
