Scared to lose your job, always.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Winston-Salem, NC (US)

I worked at Reynolds American full-time

ProsInteresting place to try to find a way to fit in with insane amounts of governmental regulations to stop you from doing your job. Always keeping you on your toes.

ConsToo many layoffs. Over the last 5 years, the company has shrunk so much that people are overloaded. Additionally, IT is just inundated with work at all times, and there is never a chance to rest. You'll often work way too many hours and never get promoted for your efforts. Then, after all you've given up for the company, you'll be booted because they need to cut more jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop laying people off so you can take other stupid risks like buying companies that produce products to help your consumers stop using your product.

Micromanaged superstars

Territory Manager (Former Employee)
Washington, DC (US)

I worked at Reynolds American full-time for more than 3 years

ProsNice benefits, good consumer goods packaging training.
Company has a premium product that sells. Territory Managers are backbone of company.

ConsDeceitful managers that overwork employees. Territory Managers are responsible for visiting 600 accounts per quarter leaving very little time for personal life after spending an hour per night after sales calls to check email and company related chores.

Advice to Senior ManagementEase up on the expectations of TMs. Make goals realistic for employees. Trust Territory Managers to do the job they were hired for as trust works both ways and you have lost it all from your Territory Managers

Overall review of working for RAI Services Company

Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Winston-Salem, NC (US)

I have been working at Reynolds American full-time for more than 10 years

ProsRAI Services Company provides excellent compensation and benefits.

ConsRAISC only wants employees who are certified in their field and let employees with 20+ years of experience go.

Advice to Senior ManagementMany years of experience and loyalty to the company are leaving the company. New employees who are hired do not possess the loyalty and dedication of the long time employees. This company will end up with more "chiefs" than "indians" and no loyalty and dedication it once had. The newer employees do not have a reason to remain with the company as the salaries are much lower now than in the past. Management is more task oriented than people oriented. This company used to be a great company to work for, and the culture has changed to the point where each employee is looking to "step on the toes" of the other employee to get ahead.

Good Company to start out with however the company offers no advancement

Territory Manager III (Current Employee)

I have been working at Reynolds American full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexibility, Company Car, and Okay salary once you reach TM III. Great opportunities to meet people throughout the company at national meetings. The company spares know expense at national meetings.

ConsThe biggest Con is the incompetent DM's they have managing you. In order to grow as an individual you need managers that will coach you to be your best. Instead these DM's are too busy covering their butts that they micro-manage and lose focus of the company culture. This company has limited advancement opportunities and its difficult to live a comfortable lifestyle with the compensation provide depending on your assignment.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart coaching employees to advance within their desired area and stop micro managing. This is tobacco not rocket science!
