Former Employee - Operations Team Leader in Birmingham, England

I worked at SCC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good culture - can-do attitude of senior management transcends overall business
Reasonable career opportunities - although I was restricted to Birmingham
Compensation and benefits - hard work is rewarded and there's plenty of variety

    Cons

Not much in the way of training - not that my role really needed any but there's no clear training calendar or pro-active training schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was at SCC for over 3 years and have witnessed a greater senior management transparency and focus. Communication improved measurably in the past six months and the direction of the business is clear

I have been working at SCC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

SCC is a great place to work - the people are supportive and helpful. It's not only one of the largest employers in Birmingham but one of the best in my opinion (having worked at a few of them).

    Cons

nothing negative to add here - I'm really happy in my job and feel well supported. Everyone seems friendly and there's a good culture and amenities - restaurant on site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need a refreshed vision for the business to get everyone behind the growth plans for the business.

I have been working at SCC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

SCC is a an evolving company that is slightly ahead of the curve. It is a comfortable place to be, full of nice people working in a range of roles - making meeting people interesting. From personal experience, there are good opportunities to progress, so long as you're willing to work hard and learn.

    Cons

It isn't always as easy as it should be to communicate, business-wide. This can make it difficult to know what benefits do exist in terms of development and employee schemes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I like the direction in which the company is headed - let's keep going that way.

I have been working at SCC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

variety of work. successful business - going places. empowered to do the job. good money to be made. Excellent support infrastructure - content to help sell has improved massively in the past year. Clear leadership direction

    Cons

I've been promoted twice in the past 5-7 years plus have earned good money. Company benefits could be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy with upper management generally - the annual sales conference is a great event that helps bring sales in touch with the business & senior management to understand our focus and direction

I worked at SCC full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Opportunities here appear to be what you make. If you are a shrinking violet you're not likely to get ahead. Those who do the best seem to be those who speak up and push themselves forward.

    Cons

The only way to truly get anything done is to go up and over. That is, to get your director on board and get them to have a word with the other director who will then tell their staff what is going to happen. Going direct to the person you need something from directly rarely appears to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your staff and your facilities. If you want to get and keep good quality people and expect them to make a nightmare commute every day at least make sure the place they work has got some perks and fringe benefits.

I have been working at SCC full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Expenses meagre but at least paid

    Cons

Job forever changing, no longer IT related though. Our way or highway is the attitude of managers. Last pay review over six years ago. Bullying rampant, make sure you join a union even though the managers claim you are not allowed to! Be prepared to have every move recorded by tracker, expect expenses to be matched to tracker records.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Delegate some authority. You claim that family values come first. Only if your family name is Rigby though.

I have been working at SCC full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I have worked for the company for 3 months. It is growing at such a rate, for the right people the opportunities for career development are unrivalled. There is significant investment currently being made both in technologies and people.

If you are willing to contribute your ideas and hard work to a developing company and shape its future culture, it’s the right job for you.

    Cons

Would not suit people who do not like change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with your policy to invest in leadership and people.

I worked at SCC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Not many, if you fit in within management you will go far.

    Cons

managers over work staff, expect the world with poor tools and not enough resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to start caring after staff. Get rid of the bully style management and blame culture which is well known within the organisation.

I have been working at SCC full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

None at all. Really, I'm serious.

    Cons

I worked there for many years and received NO PAY RISE. No-one did.
Often sent to sites with no training at all and expected to lie to customers.
Management even encourage employees to look for another job.
Company defraud customers on a regular basis.
    Engineers are treated very poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management are treated just as badly as engineers and are expected to continually lie to customers.
