I have been working at Safeway

    Pros

Safeway was always a stable company with many long seniority employees who grow their career with the company. Leadership is approachable. 10% discount for Safeway branded products. Great work-life balance depending on your manager.

    Cons

Most corporate training is on-the-job training. Leadership overhaul will occur with the merger. Pay is average for the industry, but the trade-off is stability, especially if you work in the stores. Limited promotion opportunities.

    Cons

I have been working at Safeway full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Scheduling was fairly flexible. Adding more employees couldn't hurt for scheduling.

    Cons

Compensation is substandard. The company pays roughly minimum wage. But what can you expect for such a mediocre position?

Lots of hard labor for little pay. Courtesy clerks at my store were treated more like tools then employees.

I worked at Safeway part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health benefits are affordable and you do get a good amount of sick and vacation days.

    Cons

Courtesy clerk is bottom of the totem pole so you get paid less and have to do everything. Clean, bag, collect carts in icy conditions, put away items. So if you arent a fairly in shape person, try cashier

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people including the lowly courtesy clerk. Not all of us are teens
