I have been working at Safeway

    Pros

Fair wage, and good benefits. Most coworkers are cool. Most customers are cool. Double and a half time if working on a holiday helps. Christmas, however, is volunteer only, so u don't have to work it. I learned a lot about retail marketing, and how to get along with all different kinds of folks.

    Cons

Lack of support from management. Any free thinking and new ideas are not usually welcome. Working on busy holidays can be taxing, and even though vacation time might be due, that doesn't guarantee that u get to take any time. Many managers refuse vacation, and are not required to give a reason. The procedural system is antiquated and mostly still done on paper. All departmental inventories are still entered manually, and done once a month. Time saving ideas, or duty consolidation ideas are not welcome either. If u can just do everything they ask, very, if not inhumanly, quickly, you will do fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your people! Some of us actually have good ideas, and might need your support.
Stop assuming everyone is stealing from the store. While thieves are everywhere, that does not mean everyone is a thief. If u OK a vacation or other time off, keep your word. You would want your employees to do so, and a manager should always be willing to do anything they ask of their people.
