    Soul Destroying Place to Work

Former Employee - Supply Chain Manager in Reading, England
Former Employee - Supply Chain Manager in Reading, England

I worked at Samsung Group (more than a year)

    Pros

The only benefits are the pay is relatively good, pension, car, healthcare & dental plans.

    Cons

Nightmarish place to work. Promises all but delivers nothing. Extremely hierarchical Korean company that wants to be globalised but refuses to make any changes. Internal communications & tools in 'Koreanglish'. Endless pointless reporting, no one wants to make decisions on anything. Local empowerment discouraged, never felt I could be fully responsible for my job - spent much of the time explaining what my job was to senior Korean staff with zero experience. Promotion based on age rather than ability. Staff turnover highest I've ever seen in any company. In the end, made to feel like a robot with no mind of your own. Everyone in my team hated working here and were all looking for new jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow people to take some responsibility for their work - you will get more out of them! Put local people in each subsidiary in management positions. Stop allowing internal corruption to go on. Treat people like humans instead of robots. Get rid of the culture of fear and unreasonable deadlines or targets. Be free and open with information! If you don't change, you will soon lose your market position as people realise your inability to globalise.

Former Employee - Supply Chain in Chertsey, England

I worked at Samsung Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fairly paid during my time there, good people to work with, but the biggest pro...With their name added to my CV, I have been able to get calls from some incredible companies immediately following.

    Cons

    - Cooker cutter mentality rampant
    - Very rigid supply chain with only negligible process improvements being made at an operational level
    - Frequent late nights at work (finished anywhere from 6pm to 11pm). 0 work-life balance
    - Pigeon-holed to an alarming degree, much like everybody else in the organization

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with your employees to allow them to make meaningful contributions, treat them better and people will be content in their roles. In the department of approximately 50 people that I was a part of, less than a handful of people I can honestly say were happy to be there on a daily basis. This is alarming and should be addressed promptly if Samsung is to remain a force in the industry.

I have been working at Samsung Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and salary, however you just sell your soul in exchange for no life and no family time.

    Cons

Different rules for different people, lack of transparency even though on the outside it seems like Samsung is a good brand, back stabbing, and not a job for hard working people. Only people who play the politics get advancement. Lacks real people. Trust no one in the business, everyone plays a game.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Waste if time giving management advise, the system is corrupt! Aren't you Samsung.
