I worked at Scottish and Southern Energy full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Provides all the training and support you will ever require!
SSE have a "family" view when it comes to their staff. They provide a good working atmosphere and challenges are never short! Success stories were shared through "open door," a dvd sent out to all the sales branches.
I was able to develop myself and progress up the food chain in a short period!
SSE will always have a special place in my heart!
Cons – Being in the sales department, we worked long hours but that is just the nature of sales.
Advice to Senior Management – Interact and listen more to those at the bottom of the food chain.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Scottish and Southern Energy full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Good salary and have good offers on shares within the company
Cons – Very hard to progress unless your "friends" with management. Not treated as a person, more a number to answer calls.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to treat there teams like family not just the customers
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I have been working at Scottish and Southern Energy
Pros – Probably the best thing about SSE is that you will most certainly have the chance to take on the challenges at work if you so wish.
The pay is not bad at all and the people there are generally nice. If you are looking for a place to tread water or if you are not really bothered about getting on too soon, then definitely work there!
You can opt into a pension, shares as well but generally speaking it is no better an offer than othr similar sized companies.
Cons – Too many promises! On starting with SSE take a look at their corporate inspired website/intranet. The offer and promise of training and development seem right on! The problem is delivery.
Unfortunately there is a gap between the corporate wishful thinking and the hard day-to-day reality of having no time to develop in the way that is promoted.
You will not be given time to 'find the carreer you want' at SSE. Its just the same as any other bog standard employer expecting you to go off and spend all your own time developing yourself, putting this into the workplace and there being no substansive payoff for this after an extended time.
Advice to Senior Management – Break the mould of British business and actually mean what you say on your own website! (Believe me you do not!)

I have been working at Scottish and Southern Energy
Pros – Very enjoyble work environment. Opportunities for those who want them and work for them, regardless of qualifications or background. Potential job for life. Senior management see employees as their most valuable asset and treat them as such. Sharesaves and SIPS a fantastic benefit. Seen by outsiders as a "great place to work". Proud to tell people I work for Scottish and Southern Energy.
Cons – A bit too much red tape in areas when you just want to get something done, although they are addressing this and other issues in staff workshops.
Advice to Senior Management – Never forget how important the staff are to the business.

I have been working at Scottish and Southern Energy full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Company is in a stable and recession proof economic sector. Some of the pros are loyalty to staff, supportive and considerate teams, good work life balance, flat management structure. Intra company moves is encouraged. Job off shoring and outsourcing is discouraged.
Cons – Because of the largely flat management structure, advancement within teams are almost nill. You need to switch job to progress. I guess this is similar to what you'll find in similar sized companies. There is also an element of bureaucracy that you'll find in similar sized companies.
Advice to Senior Management – Reduce some of the bureaucracy and make innovation processes work.
