    I worked at Shaw Group

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunity to travel. Good graduate teaching. High level of knowledge in experienced personnel to learn from.

    Cons

Promotions given on length of service rather than ability. Favourites are given opportunities to develop and the choice of projects. If experience isn't gained in an area within the first year it is difficult to gain experience as you are not put on projects you can't contribute to immediately. Annual reviews are a paper exercise with little or no effect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the long term prospects and careers of the employees rather than the singular project targets. Procedural requirements are overkill and hinder performance.

    Pros

Overall, the other Directors were competent

    Cons

The executive leadership was poor. Very condescending and dictatorial to work with on a daily basis

    I worked at Shaw Group

    Pros

People on the project level were generally good to work with. Pay was decent, hours were good. I enjoyed working here.

    Cons

Management on the top level was bad. Not a good situation for those having to report directly to these guys...

Also, on the project side of things, there wasn't much to go to around 2012.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much to give here, other than I'm glad I didn't have to deal with you. You got out and made your money while you could...good on you.

    I worked at Shaw Group

    Pros

It was a great place to work. I worked with them for over 8 years. The Project teams were professional, Good salaries, Good opportunities

    Cons

Upper Management / Corporate was short sighted and did not reacts soon enough to keep the Denver office occupied with contract work. Another Denver Engineering Office (Fluor, Bechtel, now Shaw) lost to management inability to actual do what their title say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is sad to realize that a company with such a legacy (Stone & Webster) could be managed as just a playing piece of The board game "Monopoly"

Former Employee - Project Accountant in Baton Rouge, LA (US)

    I worked at Shaw Group

    Pros

The co-workers were very friendly towards me and would either answer my questions or refer me to someone that could. I was paid overtime in the field either at time and half or straight-time overtime.

    Cons

Upper Management likes to overhelm the staff. You work many of days late into the evening. There is also a lot of favoritism between senior management and subordinates. Thus, it's good to be on the good side of the person doing your yearly review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should better understand the workload of it's staff.
