A very demanding job that can be very rewarding if you "sell out", and care to have no life outside of work.

    I worked at Snap-on full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of perks, although the hours worked are overwhelming at times. As long as sales are up there is little pressure from above. If you devote yourself to this it can be rewarding.

    Cons

Hours...there is a lot of pressure from above the moment sales take a dip. I was treated with harsh words from my superiors when things didn't go as they expected.

I have been working at Snap-on as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Employees were very nice
Interns were invited to all work functions and got holiday gifts
Depending on your degree, there were always full-time job openings

    Cons

Interns didn't receive perks like FT (flu shots, benefits, etc.)
    Not always opportunities to grow

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was a great office environment where the employees were all friendly. Everyone would smile and wave when walking down the hall and would always be willing to help you out.

    Pros

Great company to work for; consistent training and new challenges on a daily basis. Set schedule, great pay for the work performed.

    Cons

Franchisees are constantly dumping on us, blaming us for their own lack of knowledge. Also, they recently let 5 people go on a workforce reduction without any warning or effort to move them within the company. Lack of any mobility within the company also really hurts.

I have been working at Snap-on full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work from home, flexibility, ability to make own schedule, great brand recognition. 401k, pension plan and stock buying options.

    Cons

Need to improve technology tools available to sales reps. Recent changes to the commission structure do not support the current business trends or market outlook. Sales people wear too many hats which takes away from selling time. Compensation is 60 to 75k depending on territory. The car allowance compensation policy need to be restructure to reflect the job demands, gas prices, wear and tear on vehicle. The feeling among employees is that we no longer work for Snap-on or our to provide solutions to our customer needs; we now work for Wall Street.

I have been working at Snap-on

    Pros

Excellent benefits, Guaranteed 40 hours a week, Awesome coworkers, Pay not bad, Lot of OT.

    Cons

Hard to get ahead in the company, Once your hired in the company you can't bump a temporary employee from 1st shift to 2nd. I was hired on 1st shift and that's why I took the job because I wanted 1st shift but about 6 months after getting hired into the company I got transferred to 2nd and that is not the shift I had put in for and it also took me 18 months to get hired into the company. I was a temporary employee for 18 months. Also it seems hard for some management to say Job Well Done to their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the employees know how much they are Appreciated......

    Pros

    Great people, products and reputation.

    Cons

Highly political environment that can inhibit good decision making

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a public company the focus is always on quarterly results. Would be beneficial to occasionally spend time on longer term strategies.

    Pros

Product is outstanding and the customers are loyal.

    Cons

Management has become greedy. They company is only worried about the stock holders and themselves

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the team atmosphere I heard so much about before I started Seasoned employees talk about the good old day when the job paid and everybody pulled for each other. This was never my experience in the five years I was employed.
