    Pros

Limited stress or work pressure compared to other fields (financial)

    Cons

Small town business culture leads to slow decision process and being scared to take risk

    Advice to Management

If you want to stay competitive, you need to go faster and be leader - a head office move to Toronto could be a good idea...

    Pros

The people at this organization are very friendly and welcoming. The new head office is modern, bright and well equipped, including a full service cafeteria on the main floor with great food.

    Cons

This organization is somewhat behind the times in terms of organizational philosophy and management practices. This is a very siloed, hierarchical and bureaucratic environment, where decisions are micromanaged all the way up the approval chain.

    Advice to Management

See the upper levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: employees are bored, with no desire to challenge the status quo, resulting in an environment that does not reward innovation or out-of-the-box thinking.

    Pros

Sobeys is a great place to grow, learn and progress. The culture is super friendly and working here feels like you're among family, not colleagues.

    Cons

Being a large company, as an employee you have to push for what you want. Do not expect management to set clear paths for you. But if you know what you want, and work hard, you will achieve!

    Advice to Management

Everyone is very busy, people work very hard but more emphasis has to be placed and time made to engage employees properly and more frequently.

    Pros

Ascent to Full-Time Status prompt, if you demonstrate a hard-work ethic.

    Cons

The Pros can also be a trap, as Management sets a higher standard for the better workers, than for the lazier, unreliable ones...for the same pay. The more responsibility you have, the greater the chance of reprimand if tasks aren't completed, unless you're in Management. Poison environment altogether !

    Advice to Management

Create a better teamwork atmosphere, and acknowledge the efforts of your stronger employees, and provide positive feedback through written appraisals.
