    Pros

Industry leader, strong leadership, solid compensation.

    Cons

Lots and lots of bureaucracy, obsessive focus on bottom line.

Former Contractor - Factory Worker in Berthoud, CO (US)

I worked at Sonoco Products as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

The factory where I worked was really good because all the workers were pretty cool.
    Great manager
    Good pay

    Cons

    Corporate rules and regulations
    Hot working conditions
    Temp position so no benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you find good temp workers then hire them. Good workers are hard to find and you will run off workers by not hiring them.

I worked at Sonoco Products full-time

    Pros

Sonoco is a solid company with a conservative leadership. They are very calculated in all that they do and are relatively risk adverse.

    Cons

As a result of a being a large company whose been around the block for over 100 years they are slow to change with the current trends. There are a considerable amount of "lifers" that do not look beyond what they have always done.

    Current Employee - Maintenance Technician

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time

    Pros

Other hourly employees are great to work with. Pay is ok but only because of overtime. Very little weekend work.

    Cons

Supervisors need to be "leaders" instead of "bosses", spend less time on petty write ups and more time being part of a team.
Techs expected to take after hours calls to troubleshoot faults over the phone (without pay) but will be disciplined and docked pay for being thirty seconds late in the morning. Techs are expected to be "experts" in multiple crafts but pay level doesn't reflect this.
Company claims to be "family friendly" but expects overtime with little or no notice. Time off for medical reasons or family emergencies is frowned upon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the "occurrence system of points. The few bad employees play the system and good employees get tired of being treated like naughty school children.
Stop giving plant managers a month's notice of impending corporate visits, giving them time to whitewash the place. Drop in unannounced and find out what's really happening at plant level.

Former Employee - Palletizer Operator in Orlando, FL (US)

I worked at Sonoco Products full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Money. Medical, dental, vision, life Insurance. 401k. Opportunity to advance. Yep.

    Cons

Working many weekends, you can be forced to work overtime 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week if need-be. Working with some people who just don't give a turd and do the bare minimum. Growing distant from your family, growing old making money without enjoying life. Financial compensation isn't worth that, to me at least.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop the hipocracy, ya'll.
