Pros – Salary is good and budget is good.
Cons – Powerful click and backstabbing, culture of intimidation, the town votes down the budget more often than not. If they can hire someone for less, they will find a way to get rid of you and it won't be pleasant.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop creating a hostile work environment. If you want something open an honest dialog rather than harass and intimidate. We are not mindreaders.
Pros – The Stonington Public Schools is very serious about student achievement and providing the best education for their students. Test scores are consistently higher than both the CT and national averages.
Cons – The budget is often, almost every year shot down in referendum thus creating an avenue for teachers to loose their positions despite tenure or performance. The practice of handing out pink slips and while shopping for lower paid teachers is alive and well. If a teacher is not liked by one of the local teachers (even SEA members and officers) other method are used to drive the teacher from the job. Teachers leave due to job security issues, harassment, and retaliation.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep paying your lawyers and insurance because one of these days you will need both.
