I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They hire anyone. As long as you are able to get in contact with one of the managers, and your application received a "smiley face" online and get an interview, they can't not hire you. It's especially easy if you know someone in the company and out their name down. Everyone in the company seems to be nice for the most part. Depending on your union contract, you eventually get dental, vision, medical and Rx benefits, vacation pay and sick/personal pay (even part-timers).

    Cons

Minimum wage with raises according to union contract. They are ALWAYS cutting hours and expect everyone to work extra hard to make up for the lost work. They are such a cheap company owned by Ahold, a company from somewhere in Europe and they do everything they can to cut down costs. Especially store managers, so can receive their bonus at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop listening to corporate so much, try to think outside the box a little and form your own opinions for once. You all just agree to everything they say without even questioning it, even if it doesn't make any sense at all. Grow a pair.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid fairly, worked a decent number of hours.
Some great people worked in the store.
Employee points for money off purchases.

    Cons

Cashiers were not given enough trust. Issues that I could have easily resolved myself took far longer than necessary because the system only allowed supervisors to input certain commands, which only made customers extra frustrated.

Customers weren't always easy to deal with, especially when you had to seem happy for all of them.

Little room for advancement. As a cashier, your best bet was moving up to a Self scan or eventually a CDH position. These were effectively picked fairly arbitrarily, and once you hit CDH you essentially hit the ceiling.

Towards the end of my time working there, hours were being cut left and right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep giving everyone hours.
    Continue to hire nice people.

    Promote people on their merits.
Give cashiers a higher level of trust. The more they can do, the more satisfied employees will be.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. Good Benefits. Great staff. Management makes sure we are up to date with latest trends and CEs.

    Cons

Not enough support staff and hours. It is hard to navigate filling customer prescriptions, taking phone calls, manning the register, giving a flu shot, and helping customers pick out OTC items.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more support staff in the pharmacy so that there can be more traffic.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - The job itself is exercise. You're on your feet and moving your whole shift.
    - Breaks are often longer than contract allotted, though that was largely thanks to nice managers.
    - Hours are very flexible.

    Cons

    - Its starts out at minimum wage so take it for what it is.
    - Being blue collar work, you can your hands a bit grimy.
    - Definitely not suited for those with mobility issues or physical disabilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what my managers did and give your Peapod shoppers longer breaks. It can take 5 minutes to buy yourself a snack. 30 minute breaks are the best.
