Pros – Synopsys is large company with a global network. During my time in their HR department, I noticed that Synopsys invests heavily in the quality of their workforce. In a period of just six weeks, the company in Shanghai hosted two workshops dedicated to improving communication skills. There is also a strong sense of community and great mentorship. Interns are greatly valued; we got to work directly with upper management (and we never had to do coffee runs).

Cons – There is nothing particularly bad that I have to say about my experience at Synopsys. Interning in the HR department involves a lot of paperwork, filing and auditing. I do wish that I got to shadow employees and see what their average day was like. This probably did not happen because the two of us HR interns were located in a separate room.

Pros – Work Pressure is less, Managers are great, do not want to experiment too much, hence leading to monotonous work

Cons – Lower level management is weak, many times incompetent (but not aware of it).

Cons – As with many companies, culture change is difficult following acquisitions.

Advice to Senior Management – Place a strong emphasis on assimilating newly acquired employees to the corporate culture.
