    Pros

TIBCO is a company that solves really hard problems for the world's most important businesses. It's a great place to work to with really smart people and make a difference on relevant, real-world problems. Engineering and Sales have always been dominant forces at TIBCO, but Marketing is the newcomer who's beginning to make a big impact. TIBCO is also led by a CEO who knows how to operate the company well, which is a big plus!

    Cons

    Some processes take too long
Collaborating across all the sites can sometimes be difficult
The parking lot is too full-- too many parking places taken up by people who are just here to enjoy the awesome cafe

    Advice to Management

    Continue to hire great people
Review and eliminate any unnecessary processes
Help the sites collaborate across geographies better

    Pros

Good salary, good benefits, good technology, great technologists. This company has vision on technology and has showed to be able to keep the pace with new trends in the IT.

    Cons

Bad management, not able to manage people, focused only on reaching personal bonus targets.
No internal communication, management driven by emergency and contingency.

No HR at all, just a black box in the headcount without any visibility and power on employees. Promotion and career advancement are not based on your skills and seniority, but just on prejudice by sales managers. More important: flat organisation, no real opportunities to have a normal career path, so expect to be limited in the same role for decades.

Product managers too young and without real experience in the IT, so final products oftenly quite distant from real-world practices.

    Advice to Management

Being a manager is not just a matter of figures.

    Pros

Good benefits. Career opportunities may come as the private equity firm gets their bearing and starts moving the performers around and the road blocks and distractions out. At this point, work life balance for most has to be considered great since most people get in after 10am and leave before 4pm.

    Cons

-- Execution is based on fear, not individual empowerment or shared interest in advancing the organization.
-- Processes and procedures are only discovered through failed attempts to get things done and getting turned back to follow the process (mostly defined based on legal's fear of a lawsuit and wanting to block any progress) that is not documented or communicated.
-- Emergencies are created as a way to get things done.
-- No trust, respect, or ownership for the contributors or managers in the trenches - Everything must be prescribed and approved at the highest level.
-- Lack of visibility into the future of compensation now that the equity benefits are gone and management has sat on their hands for 4 months coming up with the replacement bonus/MBO plan (they can't figure out what the objective should be).
-- The marketing team seems to talk the talk and spends lots of time coming up with explanation on how they are going to generate more interest, but they are proven to be a worthless cost center that is a lap dog to sales.
-- The sales team is held on a pedestal and treated to exotic trips for meetings even when underperforming. -- The product development team is under appreciated and is led without direction and focus to develop products that have little to no meaning in the marketplace or to the potential customers for them.
-- The customer focused teams of support and training are silo'd from each other and by product and have no shared vision for how they can present a unified front to better support customers through one place irrespective of the product, leading to frustrated customers and under utilized products.
-- Little to no communication, just lots of rumors and hearsay. The future is uncertain with the equity firm ownership-either the executives don't know what's going to happen either or they won't say.

Tibco is currently focused on trying to correct itself and is not focused on its employees or customers. It is far along in the stages of the Weitzel and Jonsson Model of Organizational Decline.

    Advice to Management

-- Focus on Employees and Customers at the lowest, individual level
-- Get out of the way! Empower individuals and teams to make decisions and execute by laying out high level goals and allowing the organization to show it's strength through individuals. Don't be a distraction from the important things that your teams are trying to achieve - ask yourself if what you are asking for would be appropriate if someone else was asking for it and if it really is going to have the impact to justify hijacking other priorities.
-- Reward action, even if mistakes are made in exchange for inaction. Eliminate the processes that do not grease the skids of activity, but instead stand in the way. (i.e. Legal, purchasing, IT, etc. should enable the company to act responsibly through education and general guidance instead of focusing on putting up hurdles that eliminate the ability for progress)
-- Be honest and up front with the employees...allow them to gain confidence in the future based on extreme visibility, removing their need to worry about surprises. (From the individual contributor perspective, the first impact of getting acquired is the implementation of the CCAT (test) of all employees...what else is happening or is testing, firing and hiring the only strategy?)
-- Update your resumes - most of you will be out on the street when Vista has been around long enough to see what is going on. Most big companies with lack of growth are made up of B-rated executives (A-rated people are too smart to stick around and C-rated people aren't good enough and don't have the experience and know how to make it to the executive ranks) - The way that Tibco selected its executives has allowed C-rated people through and it is suffering the consequences now.

    Pros

Company is transforming - it's like being at Apple when Steve Jobs came back. Exiting to see upfront how this transformation is happening. Deep focus on strong, industry leading products that are a driving force in the re-architecture of today's businesses (internet of things, digital enterprise, big data, streaming data).

Vista transition has actually been helpful. It's allowed the company to focus on what is most important. Leadership has a clear vision and is not distracted. Stronger alignment between major organization pillars of Sales, Product and Marketing - and seeing people work together as a team. Have seen a significant change in last 3-months of co-workers excited for what TIBCO is going to become. Those that are here want to be here and are committed, which wasn't the case when I started. The company is being redefined from the inside out and things that were status quo are being challenged to make this company awesome. Best part is you know that everyone you're working with wants to do the same thing.

The new CEO is very rational and reasonable - understand the business inside and out - as you would expect being the former COO. But, its great to have someone so in-tune with the business, know where it needs to go and have the calmness to clearly articulate that direction to others. I've seen too many other CEOs who didn't know where they were driving the ship and then got mad when they got lost. So refreshing not to be in that situation here!

Company has one of the best benefits package I've seen in a long time! And of course the best cafeteria ever!

    Cons

There are some processes here that are cumbersome and lengthy.
You might gain weight because the cafeteria is a foodie's dream!

    Advice to Management

Don't need to build everything from scratch.
Keep investing in development in new products that help businesses change the world.
