I have been working at TJ Maxx

    Pros

Because we have so many employees, getting time off is no big deal as long as you ask before the schedule is made.

    Cons

The general manager treats us like we are stupid and know nothing. Also, you are constantly pushed to trick people into applying for a TJX credit card, signing up for the "rewards" card that they get no rewards from, and asking for charity donations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please don't treat us like we are complete idiots. Also, try to have the same expectations, because each manager at our store expects us to do everything differently than the other manager wants and so forth.

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are great and atmosphere is good. Schedule is flexible, you can take up as much (or as little) as you want (at least on paper). Management is usually understanding and try to accommodate your scheduling needs. We get discounts on all merchandise, and customers are generally very nice.

    Cons

Pay is low (typical retail level), but the real problem is instability. During the holidays you can work decent hours, other times of the year are unpredictable. Employees often get scheduled only a few hours a week, yet stores keep hiring all year around. Management changes very often; during my first three years with the company my store had three different store managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate seasoned, loyal employees. Give them a more steady schedule, and maybe turnover will improve.

    I worked at TJ Maxx

    Pros

Easy job, can be fun, good benefits, good staffing levels, not a lot of mandatory overtime, only worked some weekends.

    Cons

Sexism in upper management, road blocks to try to advance, especially in the PA region, too many store managers who do not want to advance, so little opportunities for store management positions arise.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, it is retail you will work some nights and most weekends, great health benefits package, competitive salary, great senior leadership, they stick to their values.

    Cons

Bonus structure could be designed better to be more motivational especially since its based on comp sales. Discount should be better especially for hourly associates. Vacation is not bad however it could be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall very happy with my career here. Need to be more aggressive with salary for hourly associates if we want to attract and retain high quality associates that are able to deliver expectations.
