I worked at The Hartford as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The hours were flexible, the work was engaging & compensation was very fair. Very friendly atmosphere and helpful co-workers. Finally had gotten token access for remote access to work from home relieving commute time altogether.

    Cons

If having to commute it is a bit far, and takes time away from family social time if having to leave late catching evening traffic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reach out often and have touch points.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay for performance, great amount of paid time off, company appears to value/reward hard work and solid performance. Talented work force.

    Cons

Overall culture has declined, much less work life balance then in the past, overtime being asked for each and every week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get on the same page. Slow down the amount of change made to processes. Do a better job in retaining good talent.

I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very ethical company, great people to work with, strong customer focus. Work from home option is a great benefit and helps with work/life balance. Advancement opportunities if you work hard. Competitive benefits package.

    Cons

Promotion opportunties for tenured employees or for those who work remotely. Although working remotely is great for many reasons, there aren't many remote jobs that you can advance into which makes advancement difficult if you don't wish to relocate.

I worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

This is a great company. People are friendly and great to work with. Solid foundation with a lot less layoffs than other insurance companies in the area. Opportunities for career growth and continued education if you're so inclined to go after it.

    Cons

Very old school office culture. OK to work from home sometimes but otherwise they feel you must be in the office to be successful. They don't understand that with technology today employees can get as much done (and in a lot of cases be more productive) working in a flexible/virtual environment. Benefits were OK but be ready to pay a big share of the cost if you ever need to go to the doctor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more flexible with people's work life balance. Allow for telework.

I worked at The Hartford full-time for less than a year

    Pros

co-workers and managers are great people; compensation; company is pretty open about their vision for the future, PTO is amazing if you use it correctly

    Cons

there are no discussions about career advancement until you actually apply for a new job; follow up once you have completed training can be improved; overworked for the amount of pay given

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to the employees and difficulties they are having

    I worked at The Hartford

    Pros

    Decent Pay and benefits.
    Good vacation.
    Opportunity for advancement and education.

    Cons

Office politics and rumors are epidemic. You will always be on the chopping block for layoffs in the time I spent with the company I never felt secure in my job, the feeling was mutual throughout the office.
They will work you to death. A decent wage quickly turns in to minimum wage.

I worked at The Hartford full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The workers are nice, upper management takes their directives from further up the chain. Not much fighting for the employee who is bombarded from all directions.

    Cons

    micro managed, robotic, numbers driven

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be real. Try to remember what is was like handling a desk. Better yet, go sit with your people and see what comes at them all day, every day.
