De-motivating

Client Service (Current Employee)
Oxford, England

I have been working at The Nielsen Company full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThe people are really nice and willing to support
There is a good training programme
It is a Good company for Graduates due to the structured training program

ConsFar too much work for 1 person, resulting in de-motivated, de-moralised staff
Too many people involved in simple processes
Things go into a 'black hole',
Client Service responsible for everything that goes wrong, rather than the specific departments taking responsibility
Rigid accreditation applied to Client Service, which has to be completed in your own time

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployee satisfaction is low as people cannot do there jobs properly. There is far too much expected from one person. Consider work load to increase employee satisfaction which will result in higher client satisfaction

No life, just work. Little integrity of the higher management.

Operations Manager (Current Employee)
Oxford, England

I have been working at The Nielsen Company full-time for less than a year

ProsOffered the job after just one interview. Salary is decent. Colleagues at my level are friendly and interesting people.

ConsOne of the flag values of Nielsen is "Transparency" but the common practice is to hide the true status of the progress not only from the client, but also from colleagues from other departments. When I shared info about lack of resources in my project as a cause for delay I was told by my manager "to wash the dirty laundry in my own house".

Working hours are crazy. If you are not assertive they will make you work 7 am to 11 pm. People schedule calls at 3 am cause they cannot wait few days to talk to China. We outsource to India and I have heard of cases of people not sleeping there for 3 days to deliver.

Forget about your own life....

Advice to Senior ManagementOnly sign off the commitments that you can deliver based on a 37.5 hours contract.

Downhill spiral

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsNice people, established organisation, some flexibility, decent benefits, regional roles.

ConsMiserable staff, stressful environment with long hours, constant cost cutting made it an unhappy experience especially recently. HR are particularly clueless/naive.

Looks promising at first but disappoints the longer you learn about it

Senior Data Analyst (Current Employee)
Oxford, England

I have been working at The Nielsen Company full-time for more than a year

ProsBig company mentality, international and diverse environment, company active in many products and services, well known brand name, competitors like IRI want to hire you

ConsStuck to the Nielsen way, not open to new approaches, not friendly to experienced people and from different backgrounds. HELLISH accreditation process in client service, stressful and meaningless, many drop out when they realize they are doomed if they don't pass it. Clique attitude, high personnel turnover, full of frustration

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are complicating the situation, so question your current approaches, attitudes and styles. The answer can be only one: With the current set up you're looking in high personnel turnover and not attracting talent

great opportunities for growth if you are happy outside your comfort zone

Director (Current Employee)
Oxford, England

I have been working at The Nielsen Company full-time for more than 5 years

Prostruly global, opportunities worldwide
work with all major blue chips especially in FMCG
complex, matrix org, great experience
lots of leadership development focus

Consso focused on productivity that too often cut too deep
innovation and growth tends to be focused in US and developing markets
operations and finance rather than marketing led

Advice to Senior Managementtry to go for more autonomy than micromanagement and learn to trust leaders more
look for ways to invest in growth opportunities and not too much productivity everywhere
