Head office - Horrible. Senior Managers/Directors are stuck in dark ages and create a threatening atmosphere

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Team atmosphere - only because everyone is in the same soiled and wretched boat.

    Cons

Work hard and don't play. Female? Only if your over child bearing age or a cleaner. Senior management don't listen and pay lip service to staff views. 4 of the directors have been there since TRU started in the U.K over 20 years ago and their management style hasn't changed since then. Even 20 years ago it was a hundred years out of date. Victorian is one word - Border line sociopathic if you're in finance is another, 'Woman' with massive chip on her shoulder about men if you're in Buying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire - your old but not gold. Couple of you are just plain nasty.

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a great way to find out the latest toys that kids are wanting for Christmas and the see the latest games available.

    Cons

You work your butt off for 6 or 7 days a week and get less than minimum wage. You are left to cope on your own. You are even asked to work after you have injured yourself instead of being taken to hospital. If you have a life threatening accident, DO NOT expect any help or sympathy, just expect to be told to GET BACK TO WORK. Legal standards are very lax. Health and Safety violations are rife. And management does not care about anything except getting more money.
Offers are false. There has been a number of items 'On Sales' and then listed as 'Half Price' and then back to 'On Sales' without actually being sold at the full price.
AVOID THE PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE is you want to stay alive.

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Helping Customers, Staff Discount, Learning about the toys and products.

    Cons

By law you can work 6 hours without a break. Anything over that and you get half an hour. Toys R Us take the ps with this and I was working over 6 hours and staying behind without any break. We was only allowed a glass of water. Management is poor and first day put me on the shop floor, then gave me an 'induction' (reading papers), after I had done a 6 hour shift knowing nothing. Employees are depressed with low pay, hardly any breaks and made to feel like dirt if you don't get things right straight away. It is a shame because it could be a great company to work for. They are ALL about PROFIT. They don't care about the customer, the stock or the staff. All they want you to do is smile while doing a slave labour job. Give it a miss. I walked out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your staff better. At least a 10 min break allows staff to be more productive and relaxed with customers. Some people smoke. You can't expect people to go 6 and half hours without ANY break for a snack, coffee or a cig. Sort it out.

    Pros

Very upbeat and exciting to work for, specifically during the holiday season. The training and on boarding process was quick and easy.
