    Avoid at all cost

Engineer (Current Employee) Gainesville, FL (US)

ProsThe pay is competitive. And if you make it in the clique, you're good.

ConsLong hours with no payoff. Unfulfilled promises. Promises made to make you work longer and harder, only to learn they were never real. Weak management. Many layoffs. It's sad to watch coworkers be let go under the guise of mass layoffs, for personal reasons, not because of their work, but because someone higher up felt threatened. I can't wait to get out. You are always afraid you're the next to go. If you want a career, go elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementEvaluate yourselves. You need to make changes. Major changes.

Not the best place to work.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Gainesville, FL (US)

ProsThe people there were good. There were fun parties after work. We were making a cool product that millions of people used.

ConsExecutives at the company were out for themselves. Long work hours. Pay wasn't amazing

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat the employees better

    Avoid This Employer

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Pros-good group of Employees
    -talented developers, artists and teams
    -Interesting people

    Cons-Horrible/ Inexperienced management
    -Abusive and controlling boss
    -Low wages / No perks
-Crunch Time / Overtime hours are constant and mandatory despite contracts
-Experience and knowledge is not respected or allowed
-Lead and senior positions are a farce. Only person making decisions is boss, despite lack of knowledge
    -Questionable business practices
-Constant threats / inappropriate behavior from management

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with respect and allow leads, senior positions and directors to do their jobs. There are many very innovative individuals working for this company who suffer daily under poor working conditions, arbitrary deadlines and slimy management. I do not understand how the artist teams deal with the uninformed decisions made by upper management. It's bad enough in our room and yet, I know they have it even worse off than we do. I have never worked for someone who is so afraid of his own employees before that he treats them like bad kids and while I may not be one of the vocal ones in the office I am secretly ashamed of working for this company by the way it treats the people it employs.

Whirlwind of development, art and programming.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Gainesville, FL (US)

ProsA challenging unique environment, developing cutting edge games using Unreal technology. A group of tight-knit artists and developers working towards their dreams.

ConsBrutal crunch periods, long work hours. Little work-life balance emphasis. Little opportunity for internal advancement, and lack of motivating influences.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to focus on recruiting and retaining top talent. Turnover is dangerous to any business, but especially indie studios.

Trendy has a lot of good potential and talented people but is still in the baby stages of development as a studio.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Gainesville, FL (US)

Pros-Some cool and high scoring (in reviews) projects.
-The chance to work on many different kinds of games.
    -Chance to learn new things.
    -Good workmates.
-Good opportunity to try your hand at different parts of development (if you are ambitious enough)
-Cost of living in Gainesville is low and people are fairly nice.
    -Health insurance.

Cons-Long work hours plus weekends in many cases.
-Current studio space is cramped and inefficient.
    -Very few company perks.
-Projects are not given enough planning time.
    -Pipeline is pretty sloppy.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the pipeline, learn from employee feedback, the studio is too small for communication to be this sloppy. More perks asap :)
