ProsHelpful and friendly people (mostly anyway)
Global contracts with high potential
Flexible working hours
Attempting some agile methods
Office newly refurbed
Free tea and coffee

ConsSoftware is dated
Although there are a few good developers, innovation is stifled by those in charge.
Very much a software hacking company with few industry standard patterns or methods used. It's all about bolting on some new half baked features and shoving it out the door.
Lip service is as much attention as testing is given.
Senior devs fear change due to their lack of knowledge and experience outside of tribal.
They need to drag themselves into this decade and put more focus around quality.
Management are very inexperienced and run around like headless chickens (literally)
Much more agile methods are needed around the software development if they are to sell themselves as "agile", it's more than just two week iterations and a daily stand up.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage new ideas, there are developers with good experience on the floor.
Learn more about the software development cycle.
Place more emphasis on quality and a little less on new half cooked features.

ProsGreat colleagues, great products, strong reputation and brand which gets you through the door of clients'.

ConsStruggled to capitalize on all intellectual capital of the companies it bought or to leverage off the range of different relationships. Less of a tribe more of a collection of many tribes. Left its value base behind..

Pros- Management are excellent, they trust employees and give a lot of support when needed.
- Colleagues are also very nice, a good and postive atmosphere overall
- Flexitime
- Can work from home
- Overtime available if wanted
- Agile implemented properly (mostly)
- 9/12 on the Joel test

Cons- Some very mediocre employees
- Code base isn't as nice as it should be
- Unit tests exist, but writing them is always harder than it should be
- A little bit too much bureaucracy for an agile company
- Stories aren't always as well defined as one would like
- A promise of lots of on the job training has not been fulfilled

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the quality of the developers, either through more training or better hiring practices.

ProsColleagues were welcoming, supportive and always willing to give advice to projects, even if not personally invovled.

ConsUnfortunately the Company has gone through many changes over the past few years, leading to dissatisfaction, unease and unrest amongst employees. Communication from the top down was poor, suggestive of a sentiment that the employees were merely commodities to be traded for the best possible share yield.

Advice to Senior ManagementDecide on your plan and stick to it; don't keep changing the goalposts for people.

ProsWork colleagues are good, management is poor, team spirit is good at times

ConsBoard do not undestand the software development life cycle and never let you return to 'finish off' an application

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to the chalk face workers, come down out of your ivory towers, open your eyes, stop taking bonuses earned by the chalk face workers, adn reduce some of your ridiculous salaries

ProsIn a nutshell I'd say the best reasons are diversity and scale of opportunities available to even fairly junior staff. Also fast growing company, rapidly gaining market share in a number of different vertical sectors. Also work primarily with the public sector, so there is a social benefit to most of their projects. Its size can be considered in some respects to be an advantage, clients percieve us as helpful and dedicated and non-arrogant, which is a real differentiator from some of the other players, like Accenture and Mckinsey.

ConsStill fairly small, lacks scale compared to some of the sector giants Mckinsey e.t.c

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate more, and do speak to consultants in management speak, they find it insulting because it's the same stuff they spout when trying to distract clients.

ProsThere are opportunities to work in different areas of the UK and abroad- not that I have looked into it. Large organisation with different areas of expertise. People come from a variety of backgrounds. Within the organisation there are different sectors that you can work in.

ConsNot that much integration between departments. Not always kept in the loop. Management could handle employees in a better manner, giving feedback throughout projects and manage issues in a better manner.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep employees up to date with what is going on in the company.

Former Employee – worked at Tribal Group

ProsThe company has a good reputation delivering a range of comprehensive services across to aa wide variety of clients within the public sector and this incluses health, education, local authorities, local government. The skill and knowledge within the organisation is excellent and they have very prestigious client list. There is almost an unprecidented range of servcies incuding architechts, IT consultants, housing and regeneration specialists, HR and recruitment, advertising. This when pitching to new clients was extremely powerful that the company had grown through acquisition and could provide almost a one stop shop to deliver this breadth of diffferent services. Also has the advantage of being abel to provide excellent geographical support to their clients.

ConsThe downsides to working for the Tribal Group are primiarily the lack of cross working between the different parts of the organisation, this is poorly manged from the top and within each operating untit within tribal, this is partly based on the company having grown through acquistion suffers from sub cultures and silo working and I beleive a hughe amount of opportunutes are not utised to truly deliver 'big ticket' sales and maximise account development within the organisaiton, There is also a lack of management strcure and performance management compounted vy poor HR support and inadquate communiations strategies within the operating divisions.

Advice to Senior ManagementAnalyse the potential of the benefits of working more cohesively and joint opportuities across the group.
