Great Products, Great People

Supervisor (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat People, Brands and Office Location. Massive company wide restructuring bodes well for the future and has encouraged new ideas.

ConsOccasional poor communication. Reorganisation has lost a lot of talent and experience. General feeling is that it will be tough in the short term.

Company is what you make of it - as always.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time for more than a year

Pros*Good colleagues and a largely positive working environment. No overt aggressiveness or blame-culture.
*Work-life balance was good on the whole but depended a lot on the area and work.
*Good central location in London
*Offered some good-ish development training

Cons*Decision-makers tended not to know/grasp properly what they were doing.
* Not enough checks and balances.
*A chronic make -do-and-mend approach despite serious structural changes/expansion
*Pay and promotion not great
*Employees tended to stay on and become “comfortable”, which brought problems

Advice to Senior ManagementRefine focus and adequately update the company to reflect the world it's operating in. The company is going through a restructure, so things may change/changing in the future.

Comfortable and cheap

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting full-time

ProsLaid back, comfortable, not very corporate at all, great community and place to work.

ConsPays little compared to most private media companies, some people who thrive on pressure won't like the laid back atmosphere. The perks for a media company are quite unsubstantial.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvestment in people helps in the long run.

A good first job as a fresh graduate

PR Coordinator (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting full-time for less than a year

ProsA good first job as a fresh graduate. Gained solid experience from a good surrounding of professionals. The american nature of the business promoted an industrious culture.

ConsThis was a good first job for me, not really any cons - but then wasn't there long enough due to fixed term contract arrangement.

Vivid environment and friendly people.

Director (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGlobal company with credit in the business. All sorts of internal opportunities to change rolls from time to time. Very good team work.

ConsToo slow to make things move. Always inform people the on the last day of renewing contract or not, which is not very nice.

Great place to work with an excellent work life balance.

Research Assistant (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting

ProsThe people are easy going but professional and hard working. You are given a lot of resposibility compared with other companies and this responsibility can grow if you do well very quickly.

ConsSometimes the work can be tedious but if you prove you can do well then they give you more interesting work.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo make sure that the staff are constantly busy, also to make sure that the work differs enough to remain interesting.

It's a great place to work even on contract

Drupal Developer (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA (US)

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting as a contractor for less than a year

ProsDevelopment culture is great. There are many different opportunities across different parts of the industry at Turner, e.g. they have sites to support their TV channels that are really creative but there are teams that almost feel like marketing agencies with a more corporate feel. With the backing of successful networks there is time to grow as a developer and not just hack, hack, hack. You almost feel like a real employee at Turner instead of an outcast contractor.

ConsI think this is true of most places but politics from leadership could be a con. If you work at the CNN Center downtown and you are a contractor you have to pay for parking.

Great company with good work life balance

Expert Software Developer (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA (US)

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat work life balance, good benefits, summer Fridays, sports tickets, free parking at major Atlanta attractions, novelty and relaxed environment of working in a creative company

ConsOnly one I can think of career progression is slow due to people not leaving the company, so its difficult to get promotions.

Advice to Senior ManagementPerhaps have a better define career path
