I worked at US Department of Defense

    Pros

Consistent schedule. Great benefits that included medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverages, 401K with matching and ability to participate in MWR programs.

    Cons

Pay was lower compared to the private sector. I was there for over 5 years and by the time I left, I still wasn't at the pay rate I could find outside.

Would be great if there were a way to develop more career growth paths for employees who would like to stay.

One of the pros of working for the Department of Defense is job security. Despite furloughs and budget cuts, the mission is essential to the government and can be a fulfilling agency to work for.

    Cons

Work-life balance can sometimes be an issue; however, with federal holidays and liberal leave standards it is manageable.
