    Pros

Well organized, the managers in the property department are very informative and competent

    Cons

The upper management pushes new ideas that sometimes do not support the overall mission of the company

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more communication from higher up leadership to entry level employees to understand what needs to be worked on

    Pros

Wonderful benefits, company is top notch in that area.
    Customer Service is stellar.
Best company as far as Call Centers go.

    Cons

-New schedule is to work every Saturday.
-Strict daily schedule/breaks/lunches timed and monitored.
-Everything is intensely monitored and there is high pressure to perform call after call.

    Advice to Management

Saturdays should be half days or every other.

    Pros

Good pay, excellent benefits, they sure can throw a nice Christmas party, a wide range of schedules are available such as five day or four day options, daycare onsite, up to $100000 a year in education benefits.

    Cons

Management of time on the phone is closely monitored and phone reps have stringent sales metrics to adhere to. It's tough on those with young families because unplanned time off is frowned upon. Unfortunately, unless you are at the corporate office, once on the phone, that is probably where you will stay.

    Advice to Management

I've been very lucky and have had good managers so have nothing to add here.

    Pros

Great work environment and culture. SA facility has everything you need to stay focused on work and handle day to day necessities. Example multiple cafeterias allowing more time to eat without driving and gyms so you can get your workout done and when you head home you can relax and enjoy your evening.

    Cons

It is structured. Some folks may say too much structure. If you come from a military background I don't think it would be to structured at all.

    Advice to Management

Continue a vigilant introspection of mid level management to assist in upper level managements growth. This will cause more interaction between senior management and the entry level employee.

    Pros

Training is completely thorough, getting you ready for the position and acclimating you to the culture. Other companies should pay attention to the way USAA incorporates training into your first few months on the job.

    Cons

Rigorous schedule and critiquing can be tough to get used to, but the environment is what has made USAA successful over the years.

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding of new employees' first year. With little time off and having the lowest priority on booking time off, you might lose some really valuable employees in that first year.

    Pros

Excellent company to work for and service of military members and their families.

    Cons

stagnant growth for frontline representatives to management levels, however additional work processes added to job duties to consolidate workload and seamless call to one person and eliminate transfers without additional compensation for the cross company duties added.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more to the front line and support new ideas.

    Pros

    1. Decent starting Salary.
    2. USAA Members are great and trusting.
    3. Personal experience with health coverage was fine but hear many horror stories from co-workers.
    4. Minimal efforts needed to accomplish sales goals and work life balance is there (if your manager allows it.
    5. If you love the Corporate Drama and Double-talk, you will love USAA. (maybe this is a con)
    6. Perfect if you are looking to do the minimum and retire in 5 years.

    Cons

    Oh boy

    1. All you hear is how much their members loves them and how member/client centric they are. All load of crap.
    2. Way below average investment selection. The planning software is a joke and all the planners there knows it.
    3. Fund/Discretionary managers have terrible performance and makes up excuses on how or why its not their fault. They talked about how they don't use REITs in their portfolio and avoided a small pull back when they missed the much much bigger upswing.
    4. I think the best part is how they start with all their meeting with their mission statement to help the members. Right after that, we talk about how we used various situations to dump products on the very same members we were suppose to help. Best yet, they are pulling products or changing goals because of of profitability to the organization. Classic
    5. You are scored on how many widgets you can dump on people. You are not scored on assets gathered, retaining managed funds, nor have the ability to provide any real advice.
    6. Military mind set (keep your mouth shut and do your work) even thou they ask for your opinion (this is your opportunity to blow smoke).
    7. Their record keeping system was build prob made when Bill Gates was still in high school. Some of the most incapable and ridiculous things happens here on a regular basis.
    8. You are not paid to have independent thought.
    9. Direct manager has almost final say in your performance and promotional eligibility. Favoritism of certain employees that keep their mouth-shut and play the game is always rewarded.
    10. The bonus structure is a joke. I imaging this must be what it is like to live in a communist country. We all the get same percentage. Does not matter how much or little work you do to achieve their "matrix".

The list goes on. So many things to list, so not worth any more of my time

    Advice to Management

Cut the BS. There is nothing wrong saying that USAA is a sales organization and it is bottom line focused. At lease admit to it.

If you really want planners to do what is best for members, stop the stupid random sales goals that resets every single year. Why would a planner keep an existing member happy when we are require to constantly gain new members?
