Current Employee – been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Working with Contractors is nice. Having the use of all needed equipment, ie Truck, Laptop, Phone, Gas Card, Credit Card makes the success of this possition possible.
Cons – Mangers are very disrespectfull towards outside sales. Considered expendable. Put huge, unatainable goals upon you each month. Expected to do alot that does not get paid for, such as running deliveries in order to get your product out in a reasonable timeframe.
Advice to Senior Management – Learn from my Cons list.

Former Employee – worked at United Rentals full-time
Pros – Largest in the industry,
Lots of availability to move while staying at the company.
Cons – Experiences can vary wildly from branch to branch.
Generally understaffed for expected business growth on logistical side.
In my experience mid and upper management will not return phone calls unless emergency.
Definately have to watch your back, they will let people go very quickly.
Advice to Senior Management – Add more support staff, or cool down the growth projections, with the other metrics every branch is required to meet, their are not enough people employed to make everything work at that level.

Current Employee – been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Experienced, strong leaders
Vision for the future
Truly believes in partnership with customers, not just supplier/purchaser relationships
Encourages leaders to recognize and develop talent
Cons – There aren't many cons for me. I've experienced dramatic swings in the economic situation, and those fluctuations have taken us from one extreme to another, with risks at both ends. A couple years ago, we had hiring freezes, layoffs, consolidations, etc and now we're growing fast that it's difficult to maintain a high level of service without the infrastructure supporting current activities.
Advice to Senior Management – See all projects through to completion before piling on more. Allow time for each to be absorbed and adopted fully before building the next step. Not saying only do one thing at a time, but make sure each initiative is fully in place before trying to move on to the next.

Current Employee – been working at United Rentals full-time for more than a year
Pros – Organized management processes, Higher level support for branches, maintenance management programs, online and in person training programs. Branch level manangement support small business atmosphere. Selling old euqipmetn after a few years of use and replacing with new equipment.
Cons – Disorganized transportation and equipment movement processes. Culture supports aggressive business practices to get equipment for rentals from other branches.
Advice to Senior Management – More focus on transportation and equipment move processes for accountability and management.

Former Employee – worked at United Rentals full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – We actually did have the CEO come around to visit and they're operating systems were similar to what we had. They had a business plan.
Cons – The CEO was touring which locations to shut down and lay off the employees and the employees that we had and they kept all say that they are very unorganized and no one wants to work as a team. When we were laid off they held a meeting on the company's status after the buyout and someone asked straight forward if there were going to be any job losses, they said no. We left the meeting and immediately after 2 people were called into the office and let go. So in my opinion they will always be liars and untrustworthy.
Advice to Senior Management – The people working for you or forced to work for you are adults and depend on their jobs. Don't try to lie and pretend everything is okay. Let the employees know that they have to let people go so that they may be prepared in case of the worst. Work on your team building and organizational skills because right now they suck!
