More change is more of the same.

Design Staff (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsGood salaries, previous 401k was good.

ConsBroken bonus plan that isn't tied to performance. Rumors of extreme bonuses for senior staff, some over 100k. Two of the top HR people have jumped ship as well as the CFO in the past six months. The CFO jumped shipped after only a year and then wasn't allowed to stay on during the transition.

Culture was suppose to be the focus last year and the chief idea was placing pictures on every floor on every wall. They left the pictures up even after they fired and laid-off employees. Unreal? Yep. Just what you want to see every morning, pictures of people that got dumped by the company. Company survey was last year and the results were never released. People talk about it all the time.

They say keeping top talent is a focus but recent changes are they took away all cell phones and made you buy your own. Insurance costs jumped by a large amount and the 401k match amount was lowered. The formal bonus plan of the past was removed without any announcement.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring back an actual bonus and incentive plan. Figure out why so many people are leaving. This company should have been booming based on the location and industry it is in. When hard times do come in the industry this company will get leveled.

Good people but the quality of work produced is mediocre

Staff Engineer (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsFriendly and comfortable work environment with people that get along well. You can gain field experience.

ConsThe mentorship was very weak and they didn't do a good job of providing the necessary tools to succeed in the engineering environment. Not enough control over the client and their overall needs and always in a reactionary mode.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed some more strong mentors and better organization of tools and more structured use of the tools.

    – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good Place to Work - Don't Count on Job Security

Project Engineer (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsGood work environment. Diverse projects. Open door policy. If you are fortunate to jump on some exciting projects you will get some good experience.

ConsBuddy system exists. If your on overhead for 30-60 days, keep a look out for layoffs because they are coming your way. Will drop 60%-70% of their workforce to stay afloat when business is slow and no new projects are coming in.

    No training programs.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of buddy system. Figure out a way to hire enough employees to get the work done without over hiring.

    The love - hate relationship

Engineer (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

    ProsManagement treats you well
    The pay is good
The environment and the people are good

    ConsUncertainty
    Random layoffs
    Contradicting/puzzling memos from management

Advice to Senior ManagementHire and keep good employees = restore confidence
Get good sales people/business developers and go out and get projects. No excuse laying people off for lack of work when other companies are desperate for people
The buddy system needs to go

    Stabilized and Growing

Engineering (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsPleanty of opportunities for career growth. The company has seen a pretty remarkable turnaround this year with lots of new faces and new work. Pretty good atmosphere. New corporate culture appears to genuinely value doing interesting things with the employees.

ConsSome of the longer term employees still harp about the "good old days at Universal and Pegasus". the merger was in 2008, they need to look at the company for what it is today.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the employees; employees have plenty to contribute to improving the company. and that isnt just the simple stuff.

Some good people but definitely needs some help

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsGreat benefits and 401k, 9/80 work schedule, some really good people work there

ConsRegular lay offs/poor employee morale. In a 6 month span there were 2 major lay offs based on loss of projects or no new business. Constant turnover/attrition of staff. Lots of baggage/attitudes still prevalent from the Ensco/ Pegasus days. Get over it, move on and for those that can't, show them the door.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet as lean as you need to be in one fail swoop. Then go out and land some decent projects and start to build your company again. There is a good core of some really strong people, but they need some direction and something to get excited about.

    Blissfully ignorant ?

Advisor (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsMoney is near top pay. Delegation of work is challenging. No politics, Evolving culture, friendly environment. New management seems familiar and knowledgeable. I love coming to work.

ConsPast has been unnecessarily up and down. Uncertain future, past loss of employees is still causing attrition due to uncertainty. Would have been nice if stayed on westside, but move not as bad as expected. Let's move back west!

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the current course. Get back to better communication.

New management team rebuilding employee confidence!

Subsea Engineering (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsSalary, upward opportunities, positive atmosphere. The new management team is making a real effort to involve the employees in getting the company rolling again. The attrition has finally stopped and a positive increase in new hires each month is really encouraging. Past clients have begun to return with new projects and working clients are increasing their workloads!

ConsSome employees still carry baggage from the 2008 merger. This is unfortunate because that was almost 5 years ago and a lot has changed in the past 6 months.

Advice to Senior Managementlisten to the employees, they understand what the clients are asking
continue to build the training programs
continue to hire young engineers, they have a lot to offer to this company.
