    Pros

The managers ensure that you learn as much as possible about being a good swim instructor. Lots of opportunity to transition into coaching and get promoted. Management is friendly and easy to work with. They are also willing to schedule around school conflicts and busy academic weeks.

    Cons

Storms will cancel a lesson and require you to clock out, but you may be stuck for an awkward 30 minute unpaid time period if you have a lesson after the first cancelled one. This is mostly standard for all swim lesson companies though.

    Pros

Not a stressful job. Simple assignments using Word or Excel. Sorting mail. Doing some odds and ends.

    Cons

    Some work can become tedious.
Once in a while, other department management may want to use you simply because you are there.

    Advice to Management

Management was always understanding and I have had 3 different bosses.
Other and upper management could show more compassion.

    Pros

The Coral Gables Campus is a nice work environment. Some of the buildings are in much better condition than others, but it's nice to be on campus. There are a generous amount of paid holidays and paid time off is fairly easy to use. If you are interested in earning a degree, you only have to pay the taxes on the tuition amount.

    Cons

There are a lot of rules, regulation, and procedures that aren't always very well explained. Upper management can really get away with treating employees unfairly if decide to... Annual raises are inconsistent.

    Advice to Management

Try to organize all of the processes and procedures. simplify when possible. Make more of an effort to ensure that employees are treated fairly and not bulldozed by managers.

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Excellent prep for first time teachers

    Cons

Few opportunities for summer employment. Half pay in August and may. No summer income

    Advice to Management

Either raise stipend or give us summer courses

    Pros

I worked as a Security Assistant during my time as a student at UM--excellent job, great staff, would highly recommend for a student looking to get some extra cash on the side.

    Cons

It can be difficult to work the hours they require. 10 hours minimum a week between the hours of 10PM-8AM. Would avoid if you're not a night owl.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to make caffeine more readily available to students, and lighten up the policy on no movies or video games at the desk. Video games, in particular, are one of the most effective ways I found to stay awake when on duty.
