Amazing & inspiring place to work in

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Frimley, England

I have been working at VMware

ProsTechnologically advanced, current leader in the IT technology industry, way ahead of competitors. Nice environment in Frimley, generally nice and helpful people all around!

ConsFeels that consultants are a bit isolated from each other and the company in general, more interaction and team work is needed.

Hope Diane going doesn't ruin it

Senior Member of Technical Staff (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at VMware

ProsIt's fun and rewarding. Tests you but gives back as well.

ConsYou work hard and it can still be frustrating finding the 'right' person to talk to sometimes.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't change what Diane started. Staff will not take well to being more aggressive a'la EMC.

Invest in the people whilst we have the lead

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
London, England

I have been working at VMware

ProsCustomers like to work with us, lots of opportunities for going in new directions.

ConsLack of support from management in terms of resource to make things happen... it's like you have to do it on your own, and what is stated as a priority by management is often not the way resources are allocated leading to conflict and paralysis.

Information management is abysmal, and lack of co-ordination across teams is laughable.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork better together and the rest of the company might do the same: and please FUND initiatives to match your words.

Great experience, good people

Director Alliance Marketing (Former Employee)
Concord, NH (US)

I worked at VMware full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLeading edge technology, great people, great product, good overall experience, and in most cases very respectful of the work life balance.

ConsVery demanding. They also tend to hire out for senior positions instead of hiring from within. It's very difficult to get things done when you are not sitting at the corporate office.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Excellent Company and Community

Intern (Former Employee)
Palo Alto, CA (US)

I worked at VMware part-time for less than a year

ProsThe company is an incredible one to work for - with a shiny new campus in Palo Alto designed to turn the company into a community. This makes going to work a dream.

ConsIt's easy to get lost in the shuffle with the huge scale of the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome work could be done to flatten the org-charts.

I love my job and the people I work with.

Systems Engineer (Current Employee)
Austin, TX (US)

I have been working at VMware full-time for more than 5 years

ProsVMware creates bleeding edge solutions, so being a Systems Engineer here is the right job to have if you have a strong desire to learn. The San Clemente office has great views of Lake Austin. There's free snack food & drinks. On Friday mornings we get breakfast tacos. On Friday afternoons we get Plucker's wings & beer. We have a very positive and supportive culture.

Cons360 traffic is always frustrating. Like most big corporations, communication can be lacking between departments. The sheer volume of information you need to keep up with is staggering.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuarterly inter-departmental updates on what people are working on.

New hire but liking it so far

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at VMware full-time for less than a year

ProsExcellent people, salary, benefits, culture. I have yet to run into anyone unfriendly or unwilling to help out. Communication is excellent and there seem to be lots of opportunity to shine here. Internal tools are extensive and technical employees have access to a wealth of internal information and people. The company seems to truly strive for ease of communication and accessibility of information.

ConsThe onboarding process could be a bit more extensive but other than that, nothing negative.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up what you are doing.

Company that takes care of its people

Manager (Current Employee)
Palo Alto, CA (US)

I have been working at VMware full-time for more than 5 years

ProsLots of exciting challenges and the opportunity to shape your career
Smart, caring and genuine people who are passionate about their own work too
Concerted effort to ensure core values is a part of our every day at VMware
Beautiful campus in Palo Alto - amazing cafeterias, breathtaking green landscape which tries to maintain the oak and pine trees before the expansion (when the campus is done, it will rival the size of Disney Land!)
The turtle pond...need I say more.

ConsDemanding schedules and workload
You really have to drive your own work-life balance

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to listen to your people and show them you care by being present and supportive
