    Pros

Some really great people if you are luck. Awesome if you end up on a team with a good manager.

    Cons

Terrible nepotism and downright ridiculous if on a team with poor manager. Lots of lifers and dead weights who are never let go. Performance reviews are a joke for a merit based organization. Have posted salary increase to performance grid but never followed. Under achievers and high achievers get the same raise. Senior executives never follow written process and circumvent policy wherever possible while low class employees are told to do whatever it takes to keep the ELT (executive leadership team) and board members happy. Slow career advancements. Effective employees often leave due to lack of opportunities and proper compensation. Leaving more dead weights behind. Low level jobs are well compensated (living wage) while roles that require specific training are under paid.

    Advice to Management

Senior leaders need to talk to staff directly and not rely on hierarchical management reports of what's going on on the ground. Let go of the dead weights. Match compensation to industry standard. Managers need to receive peer review from their subordinates and results should be given to senior management directly.

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule
    Good benefits
    Good employee perks

    Cons

    Weird culture
    Bad leadership
    No team spirit
Lacks industry standard in documentation and in IT
    Does not value different opinions

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to get a piece of the pie and actually help your team and deliver. When you spend more time managing expectations than doing the work, you need to reflect.

    Pros

Awesome benefits, and colleagues. Perks include financial products, flexible benefit purchase, transit pass and generous holidays.

    Cons

Bureaucratic and nepotism unfortunately. Has great intentions but wasteful in time and resources. Career growth opportunities are limited.

    Advice to Management

Fire people who are not performing. Underperforming individuals just get shuffled within the fold.

    Pros

Interesting place to work, colleagues are friendly but depends on what part of the organization you're in!

    Benefits package is good.

    Cons

Upper management are not fully listening to folks on the ground level i.e. branch staff and call centre staff who deal with members dailt. Huge amount of pressure to hit sales targets.

HR department is disorganized, difficult to deal with and get clear answers from and contains a number of employees that should have been let go long ago.

    Advice to Management

There are some individuals employed here that spend more time wandering around talking to people than they do at their desk.

Compensation should align with market rates

    Pros

    Great people. Great pay

    Cons

Over time more is being expected of employees. Sales targets are getting more difficult

    Advice to Management

More shifts need to be given out to part timers. Over flow of calls cause stress on current employees along with the strenuous sales goals... Which are not for commission

    Pros

    - excellent vision for making a difference within the community.
    - job security

    Cons

Entry level jobs are well compensated. Positions that require more skill sets and training are under paid. Merit increases are very low - high and low performers receive almost the same increase. Same with bonuses.
The level of nepotism for internal hiring is quite high. This has led to a number of talented employees leaving in recent years.

    Advice to Management

Look at rewarding top talent through compensation and career development. Deal with employees that are either not performing at necessary levels through coaching or terminating employment. Not allow a abussive behaviour (verbal, mental) from senior leaders.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, annual profit sharing, some unionized departments offer fixed pay increases.

    Cons

Performance reviews are based on sales numbers which does not align with vancity's core values. Over the years Vancity has become so much sales focused that more staff has gone on stress leave in last 4-5 years than the past many decades. Some managers became managers only because the either had good sales numbers or they had good connections, they have no people management skills at all. Career progression is really slow.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on your employees and stick to vancity's values instead of competing with big banks.
