    Pros

If your department has fun people, you can make many friends to hang out with outside of work. I came from a small company background, so I also learned a lot about how big companies work.

    Cons

They have layoffs at a moment's notice -- without warning. I know someone who was working for over a year, gladly worked overtime or on weekends, and they called him at home one Saturday and said "you're laid off" (This same call was received by 10-15 others in his department). His personal stuff was packed up (some things were missing), and he stopped by a few days later and picked it up. Job security IS NOT a priority at this company.

The world headquarters are located in an area with 30,000 people. Bigger towns (100,000 people) are 45 minutes away. Chicago is 2 hours away. If you're used to a lot of activity, you wont' find it close by.

    Advice to Management

Employees are people -- they have lives, families, bills to pay. Employees are your most important asset, but you seem to forget this over and over.

Company helps employees to develop their careers giving challenges for those who are interested. Constant effort to improve work environment and employees satisfaction.

    Cons

Excessive workload, project schedules not well planned. Need to implement new technology faster.

    Advice to Management

They need to plan better project scope and schedule. Mistakes on this step results in excessive work load to employees and difficult to complete all milestones of the project.

    Pros

Core product manufacturig company. Wide area to gain knowledge on manufacturing process. Lots of options to move within different core department. Skilled people.

    Cons

Slow growth rate. Below market pay scale.

    Advice to Management

Stream line the process of product management throughout the regions. Re consider the inflation and pay scale as per location.

    Pros

Really good at promoting within and provides a multitude of personal growth opportunities. Great benefits and active in the local community

    Cons

Salaried employees are vulnerable to being taken advantage of in regards to the number of hours worked in a week. Compensation for the work, without overtime, tends to run less than hourly labor.

    Advice to Management

Fight for your employees, headcount reductions have become common place in big companies like Whirlpool, and you need to make sure the workload is manageable for the employees you have left when you start making cuts.

  10. Helpful (3)

Anyone curious of working for Whirlpool. Please reconsider. Not worth your time. Work home balance is not there.

    Pros

Pay is decent. Bonus structure is better than most. Shutdown around the holidays are nice.

    Cons

Ridiculously long hours. If you are salary they expect you to have no life. The company is nothing but marketing driven no matter how difficult or stupid it is to actually manufacture. A lot of clueless leadership. Seems to be a lot of cheerleading. Have to figure out how to play the game and play nice instead of straight talk.

    Advice to Management

Personal growth isnt really happening. Have to sugar coat everything and accomplish nothing. Time expected to be at work is just dumb. There is no work home balance. Corporate is nothing but 9-5 and Benton Harbor gets priority over everything even though they have no clue about the actual assembly lines and how any of the product goes together.
